View Full Version : Lean needle valve?

I have flown Saito 56F engine but lately I found my engine stalls when
performing hovering, so I believe this could be due to my lean needle valve.

Does incorrect tappet clearance can cause an engine to over heat? I have
adjusted the tappet clearance for inlet 0.1mm but a bit loosen for outlet to
ease the outgoing compression. Is this correct?

What should other tips to ensure my engine lasts longer? Thanks.

Dear J.,

If your engine is stalling while performing a hovering maneuver, it is probably due to the engine being set too lean, insufficient oil in your fuel, or the fuel tank too far from the engine.

Be sure the tank is as close to the engine as possible and your fuel contains 20% lubrication. Many 4-stroke fuel contain only 15 - 16% oil.

As long as your tappet clearance is set within factory specifications, increasing or decreasing the clearance will have little effect on the performance of the engine. The clearance has to be grossly out of limits to effect the performance.

To achieve long engine life, avoid any lean running, use fuel with ample lubrication, and an air filter on the intake. always run the engine out dry by pulling the fuel line at full throttle following a flying session, and load with a good after-run oil. This is very important to prevent lower end rust especially in your high humidity area.

Good flying
