Hi guys... This is going to be my new toy.. :D

its based on a Kyosho lazer Zx5

It will run on a 3S lipo.
Still wondering about what powerplant to use... I'm thinking that the MambaMax 5700 that I have may not be able to withstand the heat...

don't know if I'll be able to run it this weekend... some mods are still needed.

The mamba max 5700 on 3 cell lipo should be just fine.Run it with what you have and if it gets too hot gear down a little or put a fan/heatsink on the hottest part of the system.
Castle creations has said in the past not to panic unless things get above 200 deg fahrenheit.

have fun

Thanks for the tip.
Problem is that I've run the 5700 on the buggy before and even with a 16t pinion temps were an issue (and I was using a heatsink on the 5700!)... weather over here can get a little extreme
For the truggy I'm going below 16t to try compensate for the increase in tire diameters, perhaps 13t, or lower if possible, and putting on a fast fan. I'm hoping that will do it.

How about the 4600?

High ambient temps are never good for electrics.I fly electric as well as run things with wheels and am always glad when it's a little cool out.
United hobbies has a ton of those cheap fan/heatsink combos for the motor and I think fans by themselves to use for the esc.

Good Luck and have fun at all costs :D

tcolesen: If it doesn't work for me I might try the 4600, just that I'm not too excited about it now that I'm used to the 5700...

It would be nice to find out if there's anything out there that has a better heat/performance ratio, something that would give me more speed while the temps remain similar or close to a 4600?? I've heard good comments about the Feigao/Mamba Max combos. just not sure which one would be the one to pick...

I'm looking at hitting 50mph, as some friends of mine run highly modified nitros around here...

I bet its going to be fun chasing the full size nitro truggies with this :D

You're going to have to look at more efficient motors like the Neus, plettenbergs, and even something like a lehner 19xx series. Those motors are pretty pricey though (like, really pricey)...

You're going to need a bigger motor if you don't want the 4600. Something like a Feigao 540 10s might work, if you can find one. I think it has a kv of ~3700, so it would be spinning at ~39,000 RPM at full throttle. Since it's larger than the Mamba Max motors (on the inside), you should be able to gear it for the speed you're looking for without it getting as hot.

I was even thinking about a Feigao 540 L motor... that would produce some silly horsepower but will need the gearing bumped up to keep the speeds insane.

Heh. I'm using a Feigao 540 8L in my MT2 conversion with 4s2p A123 and a Mamba Max ESC. It's overgeared, but it hauls :D.

Thanks for the advise guys... I'll definitely consider getting one of those motors... First I'll try again and see if I can get the 5700 at a safe temp... Planning on using some thermal compound between the heatsink and motor, and I'll be adding a huge fan too... Also, I'm hoping that the airflow gets better with the truck body than with the buggy body which was practically lacking any ventilation... don't know if it will work but I'll give it a shot before I open my wallet :)

ive considered a nitro gs shadow conversion or maybe a hb lightning stadium10 conversion.first time i thought about something like a lazer.do you think it will be durable enough?looks killer.

I'm positive it will do fine, but... it will be running on 11 volts... And I like to run it WOT :D I'm a bit concerned about the tranny, but I will be careful with the slipper settings and that should help. So far as a buggy its been durable, however I don't have a track and usually run in flat, very abbrasive offroad terrain, so I wouldn't know how well it would handle the jumps with the extra weight of the tires. I decided to convert it to a truggy since the small buggy tires are not up to the task in this type of soil and was desperately needing something more durable and with higher ground clearance. Currenlty I've been running a stadium truck with the mamba on 3s, but its just too much power for it and the tires will not hook up. With 3s the buggy was a missile, so I'm hoping that it will only get better with proper gearing and the increase in traction from the new set of tires.

ive been kid of looking for a sturdy 4wd platform for a bl project.ive been running 1/8 scale buggys and truggies, but havent found a suitable 1/10 scale platform.any ways goodluck that thing otta be a rocket!
