Did anyone else have a moment of confusion the first time going into the rock crawling forum? I don't really look at the name of the forum I'm going to, just the thread, so when I went to the FJ40 thread(nice truck btw) I assumed I was in the MT section because of how far down it was. Then I looked at the forum tree to go back to the beginning and had to stop and look at it. Then I went back and looked and saw this new forum, right between MTs and bodies. I like the idea, I'm starting to really gain interest in rock crawling, and now it will be easier to see what you guys are up to!

Welcome to the rocks! :) You will find yourselves doing research to understand what most are saying because the verbage is different in crawling. The main thing is to have an open mind, and you can build a sweet crawler. I recommend the Pimp chassis!!!!!

There are lots of chassis' you can buy, but aside from maybe the Pimp Cane, they are all way way overpriced IMO.

There are many chassis out that are manufactured but I would say 70% are custom.

Besides the Pimp I agree for what you get, most chassis are way overpriced.
A good crawler will cost you, no matter what type you decide on.

How much does the pimp cane cost? I got my SW2 for 100 dollars, a pretty good deal if you ask me.

I can vouche for run2jeepn's pimp canes. Great price for a great chassis. Who wants to pay over $100 for something that will cost more money in the end because now you need shocks and stuff. KISS, keep it simple stupid

It's all about the build....crawling is not a RTR area, so if you really enjoy tinkering and building, you'll come to love it (I have, and I'm still building in CAD). And after the build, it's all about the challenge!

I recommend going with the TLT 2.2 class for first timers (like me, too). You'll save a little $$, and parts and chassis are in abundance. Bender SW2, BBY racing RBX, Reign K2-3L & J2-TT, Falcon 2.2, TM3 2.2, Extreme XRC, and more. You can google those to find out more.

And with crawlin' getting more popular, the products are starting to get out there! Axial now has 2.2 beadlocks (first production plastic beadlocks), and there are all sorts of MFGs making parts. Check out www.rc4wdstore.com just to see what some people are doing!

I'm here to stay!

Yeah, i am glad that axail is making plastic beadlocks cause those ones from rc4wd are out of my range. $110 for one set!! Crazy.

If you build it right. I can build a 2.2 Pimp Cane for around 300 RTR. But thats finding deals.

Clod Axles: Used $90
Servo: Tower Pro MG945 $24
ESC: Moped V16R $35
Radio Gear: TQ3 $30
Body: $25
Battery: Free if you have one or $22
Pinions: $12
Wheels and Tires: $50 for new or $30 for Used
Pimp Cane Chassis: $46.50
Plus all the little stuff you want to add.

Good thing about Clod axles are that you can build them for 2.2 or Super Class. You can buy Pimp Cane chassis and Clod Axles cheaper then you can buy a TLT-1 Kit and a SW2 chassis. So the old wise tail about building TLT's cheaper is just that an old wise tail. :D
