Well I got the body painted. I took some pic's as I went. I would like to say this is only the 2nd time I have used more then one color and only my 4th body I have ever painted.

Step one: Cut and trim the body on the factory lines. Some poeple do this after it's painted, but I like to do this first. Then wash the body with dish soap and water. Rinse the body clean.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1883.jpg

Step two: You can either let it dry over night or use a rag blow dryer to speed things up.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1887.jpg

Step three: Apply window mask and liquid masking. I used a brush to apply it. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1888.jpg

Step four: With a marker draw your design on the outside of the body. Make sure your body comes with an overspray film.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1889.jpg

Step five: Cut out your design with a hobby knife. Don't press to hard or you will leave a groove in the lexan.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1891.jpg

Step six: Peel the front part of the masking off and get it ready for paint. I outlined the design with some black paint by hand.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1892.jpg

Step seven: After I outlined the cracks. I then sprayed two thin layers of white pearl. I took a tooth brush and some yellow paint. Dipped the tooth brush in the yellow and used my thumb to spray spots all over the front.l Then I backed all that up with orange.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1894.jpg
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1898.jpg

Step eight: I then peeled the rest of the masking off and sprayed some more white pearl and back the whole body with sprit white.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1899.jpg

Step nine: Let everything dye and remove he window masking. I used smoke paint to make the windows look tinted. Then let that dye.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1902.jpg
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1903.jpg

Step ten: Remove the outer flim and she's done. Not to bad. I've seen better, but have also seen alot worse.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1905.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d133/run2jeepn/DSCF1908.jpg

Now it's time to apply the stickers. The windows aren't really that dark. The flash is making them look darker then they are.

Cool Bug body! How do the Pimp Canes flex? I don't see any suspension at all! Looks wicked tho!

The Pimp Cane is a Torsion Chassis. There are NO LINKS or SHOCKS. The Backbone itself does all the work. So you have to use a Channel Aluminum that is the perfect mix of strength and flexability. Alos the longer the wheelbase the more it can Flex. Thats why the short 12.5in 2.2 Chassis's get holes drilled in them to help the backbone twist and flex. This set up seems to work great. You don't have to worry about links being the perfect length or getting hung up on them. The Pimp Cane is the lightest chassis on the market. And with that it comes with the lowest center of gravity.

How do you have the dig set up? Do you cut power to the rear motor with the extra servo? Also, are you batteries mounted on the front and rear axle?

Yep I have a 2nd Servo that when switched it's a Switch that shuts the power off. And sice it's so lowed geared and I tighted the gear mesh just a little it locks up the rear axle. Yes my batteries are mounted under the axle braces 4 on the front and 4 on the rear. I try to keep all my rigs well balanced.

Nice rig dude! :D

I plan to do something like that rear switch setup to my Super class pimp cane. I finally ran it yesterday and it rocks! Im all about the torsions now :) I dont need the rear axle to lock up just something to cut power so i can climb steeper stuff.

I find more and more reason to use my DUD set up. It help also on dropping off ledges. I will soon have a DUD kit. That switch that I used is a little hard to find. So once I do. I'm buying them all. :D

It takes time to learn to drive a Pimp Cane. but once you do learn it's unstoppable. This torsion chassis's can do stuff that 4-links would only dream of. Plus they leave the weight where is needed. LOW :D

@run2jeepn: Thanks for the info! I built a crawler out of a Venom Mini-giant, and setting up the danged triangulated 4 link was a major pain! This looks like it could be adapted to the even-smaller crawler!

That will be hard. You need to find a very small backbone. The shorter the backbone the less it flex's. But sometimes and most of the time thats better.

Matt,

Another guy and myself have been out at Branford Point every Sunday for the past 3 or so weeks. Were practicing and getting our rigs all setup so we dont run into problems with them when the comps and gtg's start. You gotta see my 2.2 rig. The lines I can take with it are crazy. I think other 2.2's are going to have problems following me :D Now im working on getting my super all set up.

Were hardcore! Weather doesnt stop us  :p

I might try getting the switch setup this week. I have to wait for another DX6 receiver as mine is on the fritz so I switched out to a DX3 for now.

DUD stands for Dezfan and UNHOLY Digs....
The way it works is there is a 2nd servo on the back axle that when flipped down hits a Switch that shut the power off to the Rear Motor. Allowing you to power just the front a leave the rear planted or just drag it. They are 101 ways to use the DUD set up.

How exactly is power cut off? Is a brush disengaged?

RCMadMatt
01-29-2007, 09:32 PM
Probably just a toggle switch on the power or ground wire to the motor from the ESC. Is this correct?

Matt

the switch has 2 positions- on and off. You need a push switch(up and down) that when its not being touched is in the on position. Run one wire as you normally would and run the second to the switch and then to the motor. That way when the switch is pushed down by the servo arm it breaks the connection and turns "off" the motor. If your using a different type of swich its the same concept just needs to be hooked up to the servo differently.
