Got my castle link today, Got the software and USB connection working but as soon as i connect and turn on the ESC it prompts me that new firmware is available and then it locks up the only thing i can do is Ctrl+alt+del to close the app. It just sits there and flashes both the ESC and the link there is also a solid green led lit on the link. Tried on 2 PCs now. same on both. any ideas?

The esc should be off while it's connected to the pc.
Try that and see what happens?

i just tried using the version of the software that came with the unit and same thing. as soon as i turn the esc on and it switches to the mamba picture it locks up. If i turn off the esc it defaults back to the castle link pic but remains locked up.

You are not supposed to turn the esc on. Why are you doing that?
Normally though, if you turn it on it just doesn't do anything... and when you turn it off it "works" ok. Not sure what the deal is, but again.... the esc stays off the whole time.

The only discussions I've seen about your kind of prob revolve around some kind of missing files on your PC. Its time to call Castle and get some help - look at the last reply in this thread, they have a link guru, he should be able to help -

Wrench...click on each of the links below. Install in order and one at a time from Microsoft's website. If it's still locking up after this go to your control panel, click add/remove programs, find Microsoft .NET 2.0 and un-install it. If you need it for your vid card or something else on your computer re-install it and the link should still work...if you don't need it though I'd recommend leaving it off your comp...even the Microsoft techs we've spoken with are having issues with it.

thanks for your comitment to customer satisfaction!! Says alot about a company when it has reps available on the weekend to answer questions!!. One thing i noticed tho, i upgraded my firmware and one feature i miss is reverse requiring 2 seconds of neutral before engaging. had a few times when i ended up going into reverse while on the brakes. Is there a way to get that back?

That is still an option!? Plug the ESC in and hit the little black triangle next to the throttle setting. Select proportional w/reverse lockout. Re-calibrate the ESC to the transmitter with your endpoints and quick slide switch (if you have these) maxxed out. You should be good to go. If you hit the brakes and your tires don't get enough traction in those 2 seconds it will throw it into reverse while you're still in forward throttle though. Does it sometimes on my TC3 on 3s w/the 5700...I turned up the drag brake to solve it. Running 20-40% on most vehicles. :)
