Ok I'm new to planes. I appreciate your knowledge and willingness to help.
When removing the prop from the used plane I have I wonder is there a preferred place to index the prop in relation to piston top dead center?
Maybe for proping to start, or balance while running?
Thanks, Tom

I put the piston and TDC ( top dead center) and tighten the prop level across, 90 degrees to the piston, this makes it easy to flip the prop I hope this helps Mike

does this also cause the prop to be horizontal if the engine stalls or is cut?
Thanks for the RE

Yes it does MOST TIMES. the main thing is that you are hand starting it gives you the best chance of flipping over past center, Mike

It's also important to install the prop in this manner so that if the engine quits in the air the prop will go to the straight across position. This will be helpful if you do not have a smooth strip or if the plane can't dead stick back to your strip and lands in the rough the prop has less chance to break or cause the airplane to flip causing structural damage. :)
