Hey Now!!!!!!

ok, new to RC in general and have a few nitro cars......i am interested in stepping into the brushless world as i heard it is serious power and speed. i am curious to know A - can any kit be mounted with a brushless set up Brushless motor, ESC, and Batteries) B - is there somethign i shoud look out for depending on what car i decide on going with (1/8th truggy, 1/8th buggy. or 1/10th on road) C - what brushless set ups do you recomend (motor esc packages with serious power and good prices and what batteries do you recomend)

thanks, look forward to youreplies.

Surf around this forum, you'll see many many succesful options.

For nitro conversions the mamba max esc with a Feigao motor is an economical option, or use a Neu motor if you are willing to spend more - see www.rc-monster.com

Maxamps LiPos are popoluar - make sure you read about the safety issues and charger requiremetns if you are not familiar with them. I'd take a 4000 - 8000 mAh with 14.8 V (4s) and a ubec or separate reciever pack

thanks for the info.....question though....how are brushless motors measured? in nitro, the larger the engine, the emore tourque it can usually generate. what is a general rule of thumb for matchign up a good battery with the motor?

Brushless motors have two parameters that are used to size them (well, actually, many more, but these two get you started)

The first is the kv rating, which gives you the approximate rpm per volt of battery power.

Say a 4400 kv motor running on a 7.4V lipo battery (2s) will run at 32,560 rpm - a tad less under load. Look at your gearing to find out what that means in theoretical top speed. Adjust the choice of motor kv accordingly.

Look for motor diagrams such as http://www.neumotors.com/20061222/Motor%20test%20data.html that show the relationship.

The other one is motor power. You probably want a motor between 1000W and 3000W peak power - a Feigao from the XL series, a Neu motor from the 15 series etc are candidates.

I would go with a 4s Lipo battery (or 12-16 cells NiMH) for the size vehicle you mention. Other combinations work but take more research to get right.

You can use brushless in any kit that started out as electric powered and convert many nitro based vehicles as well with a little ingenuity and perhaps parts and pieces from brushless conversion sellers like fine design and the rc-monster store for example.
the power plant will be dependant on the vehicle you choose.Generally S or L 380-540 can motors for 1/10 scale touring cars and truck and the XL 540 cans for 1/8 monster truck and buggy types..Plenty of other options available. That's just the tip of the iceberg
You didn't mention if you were going to use lipos or not...I suggest you do if you can.lighter weight..higher voltage....performs well under load...

Like was suggested above.....rc-monster.com has a wealth of information and generally helpful people well versed in brushless conversions
hope this helps

is there anythig i should keep an eye out for when matching a motor with an ESC? what should i look for when trying to match up? is it possible to get as much tourqu and top end on a 1/8 truggy ot buggy as say a .28 engine?

while I have not tried it myself, I would say yes you can get as much torque and top end as a big block engine. Be ready to spend some money on ESC Motor and batteries.

The ESC - as long as it says mamba max on the box you should be fine :o)
You'll want 100 Amps or more to be on the safe side, and a max voltage to match your setup, the Mamba Max which has tons of fans in this forum will go up to 14.8V if you disable the BEC and use a receiver pack / ubec.

The best bet is to ask here or rc-monster.com(loads of knowledge there) about a possible set-up. It takes a little while to "get it" as far as how much power is needed and what size motor, ESC, battery will be needed.

It is very possible to match or exceed the performance of a nitro 1/8th, it just takes the right setup and some $$. You can even over-power the drivetrain if your not careful.

Tell me about it.Right after converting my LST over I snapped the tranny through shaft and stripped out my rear diff. :o I've since learned to be a little smoother on the throttle :D
