HEY!!!!! Great idea mab!

Ok, lets talk about mab.............. :p

Honestly, i am glad this is here. Its ncie to see so many people coming, and all the great work. The intermediate class is working, whoever came up with that idea is a genius!( ;) )

I think once we establish where everyone should be in classes, it will work out great.

Hey Mab, back in the early 90's I picked up a 76 vette in pretty good chape .... Then sold it to my Dad because he always wanted one ... From there we proceeded to strip the paint ( VIA RAZOR BLADE) and take out the front head lights and housing ..... We then frenched in the headlights and smoked the glass over the top so they didnt pop up anymore .... Then he had the brilliant idea to take off the tail because he didnt care for the slope and replace it with an 82 tail because he likd the contour ... he installed a complete oak kit for the dash and took out the dash pad and recovered over the speaker hole in it ... After this he took it and has the t-tops taken out by a custom fabricator in Seattle and then makes it a targa top all glass ..... After all the body mods to it He started getting little ( ok not so little) boxes in the mail with the words PAXTON on the sides .... My advise is do what you can dream of to this car and dont ask me to come over and help .... LOL .... They are a pain to work on ..... I would love to share pics of this car but i was traded off for a 41 willys .....

I guess this is kinda why I cant leave anything stock when I get it .. Its kinda in the blood :D

Good Luck with the project ....

mab_man20

Bigdaddyv: Sounds like a cool custom vette! My favorate headlight mod is removing the lights, glassing over the opening and putting the lights behind the grill in the bumper. Its rather illegal, but looks great. I did get a set of the glass t-tops with the car, but i need to buy the clamp down for them to fit right. Right now they let a heck of a lot of wind into the cabin. A fully glass tagra top would be cool. Do you have any pictures?

This week will see a few minor projects on the car like bleeding the brakes, cleaning up the battery terminals and wiring (hopefully i dont need a new battery), new oil and flushing the coolent. Once it gets nice enough for me to hang out in the garage without freezing my ass off ill start striping that horrid pink paint and fix the 2-3 imperfections in the fiberglass and take it over to maaco. At this point I just want a solid running that I can enjoy during the nicer months, but in a few years it will be time for the frame to come off and the real dirty work to begin.

getting back to the competitions....................

nice vette mab.

I have seen other forums where they ahve a voters poll for contests. Would this even be a good idea here? Granted, the judges do a great job, but their idea of what looks good might vary to someone elses. Possibly a vote of the masses, and maybe a best paint of the year contest? Go by all the winners in all classes, and the one who wins BPOTY, RCCA could step up with a free subscription or something?

GREAT idea Zman! I think giving a voters poll to do the judging would be an excellent choice. Maybe just have a certain date set, once the date hits there will or can not be anymore votes submitted. Would certaintly speed up the voting process to a point, not having to wait on just one person to do all the judging.

However I could see this causing trouble. What's to say that you can vote on your own submission(s) for the competition...? Or one person constantly clicking the submit button over and over. Are there polls that would allow you to only vote once? If so that woudl be great.

z-man280
02-12-2007, 11:14 AM
yeah, there is on one site Grant. I think it monitors IP, and username, you can only vote once, trying to vote more, simply doesnt count.

Jayboy
02-12-2007, 03:06 PM
most default vote boxes built into these type of forums only let you vote once anyway, unless you are sad enough to create multiple accounts....

JeffEmbracedDC
02-12-2007, 03:37 PM
Not a bad idea.. although.. you would have to set up like 9 different polls.. 3 for each class(pro, intermediate, amateur) and 3 polls per class (design, execution, etc).. Then aside from that you would get a lot of votes for people who don't really know what they're thinking and wouldn't really be able to give an accurate vote if you know what I mean..

Though.. possibly one thing you could do.. is just have 3 polls.. one for each class.. So you would have the judges do their judging like normal and on top of that you'd have a "users pick". That might be cool as long as like the guys mentioned above.. the IP monitoring is active. That might be cool :).. As far as prizes go.. I think that would be fun. At least like a decal sheet like the pit-tip guys get :).. Something like that wouldn't be worth the effort of cheating.. (as like a magazine subscription or a bigger prize might be) yet it would still be a real fun prize that people could hold pride in by displaying them on their bodies :)

Im WAYYYY ahead of you. I was waiting for the administration rights to post polls. The PRO class is up, I will be getting up the amature soon.

As for voting each month, I like the feedback the most. I know some people dont agree on the results every month, but I like the system as it is.

+1 on this one...i was on a rc drifting communauty before and it worked good.

what I dislike about the judging here...is that it's only the opinion of one painter's...not the communauty... :teacher:

What are the pros and cons of a poll at the end of every month? Besides the fact that I can only do a poll with 10 options.

so let me get this straight,as far as the paint contest goes,we'll get the chance to vote on the 1 we like instead of being judge by 1 person????hmmmm.......not a bad idea, heyw e get to vote in elcetions why not here,i for it as long as you get to vote only once to make it fair.

mab_man20
02-12-2007, 11:34 PM
Each person will only be able to vote once and each member of the forum will have the opportunity to vote. The problem is what happens when we get more than 10 entrants in a class?

hijacker
02-13-2007, 12:01 AM
I dunno, I like getting the judge's feedback, especially in the higher classes where the judges often know what they are talking about.

Voting is cool, but I like the judging as it is too.

hijacker
02-13-2007, 12:03 AM
Maybe, judging by the viewers could be a special thing, set it up a couple times a year like the concours contest etc. The rest of the time, it would be by the judges as it is now.

Awhile back, I tried to do a "people choice" in addition to the regular judges. I would have liked a poll option, but I used what I had... PM. Not too many wanted to voice their opinion that way so it only lasted a few months. (IIRC)

FESTER2004
02-13-2007, 10:35 AM
mab-true- i was sooooooooooo dead tired yesterday i kinda of misread it.i like the way it is with the judges feedback but it would be neat if it would allow more than 10 entries!

i love the new polls section, that is so cool!

can we have a poll every month?

best rc action photo, best r/c electric car/truck,etc all that good stuff!

JeffEmbracedDC

The forum administrator can change the option that will allow you to have more poll options..

Just go here:
Admin Control Panel > vBulletin Options > Poll and Thread Rating Options > Maximum Poll Options

-J

hirme
02-16-2007, 06:31 PM
Takes the best of both world...

1. let the people vote for the best body (if you can change the max number of entries)
and
2. previous month winner judge them two

so you end up with:

-best body of the month

-public choice of the month

:D

also:

we could set the deadline to something around the 21 and keep the last week for the poll and give time to the judge to do his work with winner announce on the 1st of the following month.

hope this make sense

mab_man20
02-17-2007, 02:46 PM
hirme: I like this idea a lot. I had the number of poll options increased so that is no longer a problem.

Do people want the people's choice or the judge's pick to judge the following month?

hirme
02-17-2007, 05:52 PM
I would say judge pick's since it more "technique oriented" indeed of "wow it's a nice body"

Actually, March is an Open Competition, so it would be "wow".

Mab, if you are going to try the public voting poll out, an Open Comp would be the one to try it on.

2 points of interest:

1) March will be our first trial run for open voting. I will have the previous winners provide feedback to the entrants, but the final judging will be in the hands of the forum members. The competitions will last 3 weeks with the poll lasting the 4th week. So all entrees must be in by the 21st every month.

2) The winners of the 2006 best body poll will recieve prizes (prize is currently unknown). Also expect simple prizes from RC car action or an unnamed company as soon as all the logistics are worked out!!!

It was a steal for the condition it was in. The only problem is something going on with the tranny. Its either shifting into second right away or its not shifting into first while in drive. Ive pulled the bottom half of the tranny apart, but I cant find anything thats broken or stuck. Worst case senario im going to buy a new one and put some full length headers in. That will make for some fun summer cruising.

I can pull it off no problem. :D I cant wait to see the faces on drivers when my pink corvette beats their pride and joy. hehehe

At first I was going to paint it the first chance I got, but now im thinking about keeping it that way until the paint chipping becomes a big problem. At that point I will get a cheapo paint job after I do the prep work. Im even considering painting it myself, all I would need is a gun and some plastic sheets to build a paint booth in the garage.

you do know since it is fiberglass and Chevy had that neat way of sealing things you will need a BUNCH of razor blades and some time ...... Thats how we did our 76 we repainted ..... The liquid stuff they had on the market at that time (10) yrs ago wasnt very good for the fiberglass so we had to go the manual route .... Was it more rewarding .... UMM NO .... Was it fun .... UMM Negative ..... Did it look sweet when it was done ...... OHH YOU BETCHA ... I am glad you can pull off the pink look Mab, just be careful when you drive it .... Make sure you wear socks .... I would like to suggest a paint competition if I may. Have one of the open monthly competitions have a rule of no masking, has to be freehand. Hand held shields are ok, but no stick on masking methods (tape, liquid, etc).

hirme

You keep thinking that Mab ... your gonna get about 11" away from one of those chips and its gonna get rough .... Be very careful not to gouge the nice silver under it, because it takes a bunch of creative sanding to get it out .... I am saying this from lots of sanding hours of experince ...
