Hello,
I'm thinking about racing in 1/8 Buggy. I would like to know your opinion about the chassis ? To what I have read, I got a preference for the Hyper 8, Jammin and Mugen.
I was wondering why the same manufacturer in this case, OFNA, has two top buggies being comercialized, i.e.: Hyper 8 (Hobao) and Jammin ? Are the Hyper 8 only being distribute by Ofna but made by Hobao ? And why the price difference ?
Right now, I'm very tempted by the Mugen last spec and by the Hyper 8 Hobao.
Of course, with that, I will have to buy an engine (have heard good things about RB and OS).
A controller and everything else.
I'm located in Montreal, Canada.
Thanks a Lot, David.

I have a Jammin and have been very happy with it's durability and performance.
The reason that Ofna has 2 top buggies is that Ofna does not make the buggies themselves. They import buggies from 2 different companies. The Hyper 8 is made by Hobao (as you noted) and the Jammin is made by Hong Nor. The 2 companies more or less compete side by side at Ofna for dominance. the Jammin has been around for about 2 years now and is still very competitive. the Hyper 8 was just the Newer model replacement for the Hyper 7 which was around for a few years longer.

Thanks Hirme, I will have a look, Do they have 1/8 Buggy Club Racing ? :)
Thanks Paradoxmaker, I appreciate your help. The choice between one of the two, is hard to make. My choice on the H8 is silly and kind of newbee, plus the price influenced too. But I wish to have one of each ! :-)
Now I have a new question, always related to the Buggy choice purchase. What if I buy a RTR Hyper 8 ? That was not my first choice at all, as I really like the "kit idea", however, the RTR Hyper 8 Ofna is not that expensive, and I could make all the usual rookie/newbee mistakes over the "modest" parts such the basic engine and servos. Then buy the right thing at the right tiome. But I need to know if the parts that build the RTR Hyper 8 car, are just the same as the Hyper 8 Kit, or if the RTR version comes with more tough and heavy parts that I would be tempted to replace and if this is the case, it would not be financially wise for me and I would go with the Kit right now.
Sorry for my English.
And for the questions.

RTR's usually keep the price down by including things like stamped aluminum shock towers, radio trays, and stiffener plates instead of carbon fiber or CNC plates. They will also usually have plastic chassis braces instead of stronger metal ones. These parts are sometimes heaver but defiantly not stronger, they are cheaper though. The need for the cheaper parts if to offset the cost of including a engine and radio.
If you can afford it, it will be cheaper and better for you in the long run to get a kit and add the radio and engine. If you get a RTR kit and add all the upgrade parts to make it a pro kit version, you will usually spend about 25% more than the pro kit + radio + engine would of cost in the 1st place. The only downside to a kit is you can't get up and running right away.
It all really depends on what you really want. The pro kit is the way to go if you have the cash. The RTR is the way to go if your just into it for the fun and just keep in mind that it will cost you a little more to upgrade it over time.
BTW your english seems fine to me

Paradoxemaker, Thanks alot!! You responded my questions. Now I see the nuance.
I wish you a good 2007 season. My choice is made for the kit, it will be a Hyper 8 Pro kit. Have to take a look for the eingine between the OS and RB, controller and servos.
Are telemetry a good thing on RC buggies or it is just a gadget ?

Personally i think they are just a gadget. the only real telemetry i can see being useful is receiver battery voltage.
RPM, Speed, Temp.... they are all nice, but experience will help a lot to recognize all of those on your own. Your receiver battery going dead in the middle of a race defiantly stinks, having telemetry telling you that your loosing power and on the verge of a run away would be well worth it IMO....
