I'm interested in starting a rock crawling project. I'm curious if these scale type chassis perform as well as say a SW2; I like the scale look, but want it to cover a decent amount of terrain. So far I'm impresssed with the SW2 beetle crawler video on Bender's website.

No, they won't. A scale truck is not as good as a rock crawler as an SW2 or a pimp cane. But you can make a SW2 look scale if you want. If that's what you are going for, or do you want an actual scale truck. Just check out run2jeeps pimp cane, it is pretty scale. And here is my SW2. IMO, it looks pretty scale.

Nice, I saw yours on another thread, it looks very scale and still agile.
Thanks for the info.

Nice rig savage!

And run2 that thing is just KILLAHZ! ;)

I think scale is more about the body and details than the chassis/suspension setup. I mean you really don't want a chassis/suspension setup with krazy articulation, but you can still setup a comp chassis to run scale duty.

Just look at the 2 rigs posted above!

Hey run2jeep, do you have wideners on yours? If you did and took them off, it would probably look a lot more scale.

Looks scale to me. Look at this CJ with Full Width axles and Boggers.

There's always going to be a tradeoff between scale and ability, it's up to each builder whereabouts on that spectrum you want to be.

I would say got for not to scale, in the end its awesome to see a crawler perform at its best than to look good for me, i like pure performance...

Thanks for all the replies, I really think I will meet in the middle somewhere between scale and creating a full-on climber. It seems from what I have seen on this forum that this can be done; just might take a little more effort to configure the scale looks so they do not interfere with the climbing ability. I would love to see more pics if you got em that meet this criteria.
