Ok well as you know if you did look at my other post been doing some mods on my MGT.This is one I just did to solve the problem with the rear links oblonging the holes in the diff case.chk it out. This sould solve the problem without adding weight. They are 3mm inserts very easy to do the inserts come from full force and they are a kit for the tmaxx tranny holes but work on this also :D

Pics ain't bad, but IMHO it's easier just to add a simple brace across the top, and maybe the bottom too. Just sandwich the brace(s) in between the screw and the ball ends.....................

Okay. I've had my MGT for about 4 years now, and I've decided to do a total rebuild on it. It already had the FT chassis, so I'm going with that. I've got my diffs shimmed and have aluminum retaining rings on them (the little guys that hold the end closed). The rear is filled with 10K oil and the front with 1K. Question is, what "mods" should I do to it? I've already done Chevy's steering mods on the knuckles and front lower a-arms to get more steering. Anything else?
Are there any better upper A-arm mounts than what AE has to offer? Mine have bent in a bit and makes the suspension a bit stiff. Would like to eliminate that if possible.

A-arm mounts! Email TheDude and see if he has any of his awesome mounts left. Check out the thread on the mounts: http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68967
Also, are you using a custom drag link? I have been machining them and selling them cheap: http://www.ultimaterc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78829

Wow, TD wants $50 for a set of 2 upper arm mounts (as in, for JUST the front or rear). I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything, as I'm sure he's put quite a bit of time and effort into engineering these...but at $12 for the stockers, that's almost 5x more. For a full set of those, I can buy 10 sets of the stockers and be good to go. I'm not sure if it's worth it. If it were say, $30 or so I'd definitely buy them up.

Hey yall, I would just like to ask a few questions about the MGT. I have had a number of electrics and most of them AE, so I love their products. But I would like to know if the MGT is for me. I would be doing bashing and occasional racing. The parts support for the MGT is good at the hobby shop, and the most popular classes are truggy and buggy. There are a few MT's in the truggy class (LST and revos). I was just wondering if it would still be competitive after some new wheels and tires. I dont want to sink alot of money in it just to stay competitive, not necessarily win but I dont want to get my butt handed to me. lol. :D

aeguy06 - I have done some minor mods to my mgt and it is silly fast. wheelys for ever. but the cg is kinda high, truggys should be more suted to the track. im not a big fan of the stock electrics. the throttle/break servo is ok. steering servo is not going to cut it. the controler works, but is not in the upper end of the electronics scale, but its good for bashing ( and even works ok in the rain - hahahaha !! ) plz dont drive in the rain tho. my mgt is a certafied basher. its tough, its fast, and hardly needs maintnence between bashing sessions.
im running a picco werks .26 with a ae side exaust manafold and hot boddies tuned pipe.
I just put in a hitec 645mg steering servo with 133oz torque. nice upgrade.
a foward only kit is great for acceleration. the reverse stuff realley bogs the truck down - its also heavy. night and day diffrence. also removed all the extra stuff for reverse, the servo and linkages, less weight up front.
stock shocks with the stupid fake resovours cut off with my dremel. believe it or not it helps lighten up the truck. every bit counts.
the only thing I currently want for my truck is a set of swaybars. once I get them I will be track ready. tonight while I was testing my new steering servo, when making right hand turns the left rear tire was consistantly 2+ inches in the air. same thing when turning left, right rear was up in the air. - once I figure out how to mount some swaybars I feel confident that my truck will be a force to be reconed with at the track. or at least give the truggy guys a run for their money.
does any one know how or where to get some swaybars mounted up?

Dude, what are you smoking? Sell my MGT? Hell would freeze over first!
You new guys, basic run down. I raced my MGT, and raced it hard, for two years or so until the monster truck class died off around here, it's mostly truggies and buggies at this point, but with brushless and lipo, electric (my first love) is starting to make a come back. but, for those interested:
Series 1 MGT came with the Assocaited .21 - I'm now running the latest and greatest OS .21 pull start, and it's plenty of engine. Why? Because fueled up and ready to go, my MGT tips the scales at just over 10 pounds! FT Chassis? Nah, hand machined stocker! I did so much to this truck, I can't remember half of it. But, if you gimmie a sec...
ahh yes. Pictures: http://wilderness.homeip.net/cotharyus/pictures
(warning, there are other R/C things on there - don't get too distracted! - I'm also a crawler nut.
And hey, I've been doing this for 20 years - what do I think is one of the coolest things about R/C? Some new guy working up the nerve to cut on his toy! So ask questions, I've been on and off for a while, but I'll be checking in a bit more often now....it's time for this place to wake up!

Just so you guys know, I picked up a roller the other day. I did it because I have a sick vision. It's called E-MGT. It's going to be all the big, bad, sickness that is an MGT, except it'll be brushless and powered by some form or yet to be determined huge LiPo.
Anyone who missed all the work I did to my original truck - you can see me do it again to this one. Information over on my webiste in the forum section, and some pictures in the gallery - watch it, as there are two galleries, one goes offsite, and one stays there.

Ya...mud and dry dirt are a bit easier to drive in, but they don't clean up as easily. The truck is usually cleaner after some snow running than it was before. Hard to complain about that, but I do try to attack it with the air compressor pretty thoroughly afterwards, and this time I even started a fire in the fireplace and let it dry out in front of the fire for a few hours before I packed it up.

Nice pics. I don't remember when it last snowed that much here. I'm still working on the E-MGT. I'll keep everyone updated as stuff comes in for it :)
I've had two MGTs in the past, but sold them a while back. Glad to say I just picked up another the other week, gonna keep it mostly stock. It's a 4.6, just running a Spektrum system in it, that's all so far. I imagine I'll throw an OS .30 VG in it after the 4.6 dies, but I think that will be a while. Right now I'm just looking for some good tires and a good lid :)
What's some good MGT-sized tires to run? 40 series Mashers?
metalry101
01-06-2008, 01:54 AM
Any of the 40 Series tires work well in my experience. Moabs, Mashers, Dirt Hawgs, Big Joes, I have them all. I couldn't really tell you major differences between them since they've all been on different vehicles for the most part, but I've been pretty impressed with all of them traction wise. As you can see in the pics, I've got Dirt Hawgs on mine at the moment. They're a little bit smaller than stock, and they're probably the lightest of the bigger 40 Series tires, but I have nicked the sidewalls a few times...so if you run in an area with sharp rocks and sticks, you might go with a thicker tire like the Moabs or Mashers.
Cotharyus
01-06-2008, 08:16 AM
For tires "stock sized" for the MGT, as far as I know you only real options are the stock tires, or tires made for the LST, such as the Super King Pin. If you bash hard, be careful of 40 series wheels if you don't get the large hex (17mm?) upgrade. I've seen them break quite a bit.
I plan to use 23mm adapters from DACE, the 40 series Mashers, and some dyed black Wabash or Velocity wheels. What do you guys think? Wabash or Velo? I'm most likely not racing the MGT, got truggies for that. I might try my luck in the MT class with it for a while though, I think it will be fun to race :D
Here's my truck right now by the way :D

Anyone know if the spur gear shaft on the new MGT 8.0 is compatible with the tranny for the 4.6? It appears that they incorporated a new slipper that is similar to the Revo style slipper Which would allow me to use smaller spur gears if I needed to.
I have no idea, maybe look at the exploded views of the tranny and see if the part numbers match up.

That's usually the first thing I try when I'm trying to update an older rc to its newer version. The numbers are different, but I think both spur gear shafts use the same size ball bearings for support. Thanks for the reply.
Then it sounds like you'll have to take a chance, buy the parts, and see if they fit. Good luck :)
Some shots of the MGT after a nice 2 tank bash session in the snow. I got it fixed and threw some nicer servos in it to get a better response. Still waiting on my starting parts ;)

Not much for the Crowd Pleazers. I like them on STs and truggies, but not for MTs. I'm looking at the '07 ProLine Silverados right now. I have one for my girlfriends E-Revo and I like it. Seems really tough and easy to paint. I'm also going to try to pickup a nice MT sized bug body :D

Figured I'd post some pictures of my MGT...Since there haven't been posts here in the last couple months.
It still has the original .21 engine in it, but will soon be installing a Mach 427 (teal), Axial .28, or LRP .28. Having some trouble making a final decision...But IMO, the .21 can move this truck surprisingly well.
Oh, and I am thinking about going with Big Joes/Velocity wheels (with 14mm hexes for now).

hey guys i need ur help on something. ive always wanted an mgt and a couple days back, i got offered a completly mint .21 mgt for my upgraded aftershock. do you think i should do it? i dont race but hows is the durability/power conparison?
metalry101
05-14-2008, 01:15 PM
Durability on the MGT would be better than an Aftershock. Power would be a bit less, but the engine is more reliable and easier to tune. Depending on how many upgrades you have on your Aftershock, I'd say it's an okay deal. If you've got a lot into the thing, see if you can keep some of the parts that would transfer over, like the radio and/or the exhaust to make it a more even trade.

any body else got insight? is it faster than a savage 21?
SpeedyRob812
05-15-2008, 09:57 AM
Not really sure if its quicker than a Savage .21. I remember reading some reviews that said it went around 32-35 mph top speed with the stock gearing and stock .21 engine. Also keep in mind, the MGT is a bit bigger than the savage .21, so it might weigh more, and be held back by that.
Are we talking in straight line? or on a track? In a straight line, the savage might be as fast if not faster due to it being lighter (dont know how it was geared though). On a track, the MGT, IMO, has a significant advantage (this is from reading forums online, no real world experience with this idea).
Most people swap out the .21 and go with faster engines though. Check ebay for teal Mach 427's, or buy the 8.0/4.6 tranny and throw an LRP .28 in there. Most would have a hard time keeping up lol.
The .21's strength comes from its reliability and ability to hold a tune very well. It isn't a high performance engine by any means.

so what are your guys saying about the 8.0?? i got my tax refund and i am going to sell my maxx! my friend got a savage and he let me use it and im in luv with nitro! what is needed too make it beefy?
I freakin love my 8.0. I'd take it over any other nitro monster on the market. So far I've replaced the steering servo and throttle/brake servo, and the radio system, but not because it broke. The steering servo wasn't good enough for me, so I put one of those fancy AE servos in it. The DS1313 or whatever. I've been so happy with it that I bought another one for my BL E-Maxx. I want to get another one for the throttle/brake, but I haven't yet. I ditched the stock radio because I have Spektrum stuff. Other than that...umm...can't think of anything else I've done yet. I have a ton of other goodies off my old MGT, but I haven't needed them yet, so I haven't gotten around to installing them.
Overall, I think it's the best nitro monster I've owned. I would like a pull-start option though. Having to charge a battery for the stupid electric start system is annoying. It works fine...no issues whatsoever actually, I just prefer pull-starts.
