I'm looking at building my own rock crawler from scratch. My question is what diffs should I use? I want 4 wheel steering and solid axles with driveshafts. Is Tamyia the only company that makes a solid axle?

Probably tlt axles. You could get a tlt kit and build up from there. Those axles allow 4ws also.

Where do I find a kit?

The TLT kits have been discontinued, but you should still be able to find them around. Try EBAY or local hobby shops.
Are you trying to build a scale or super class crawler?
You have the options of HPI WK, Tamiya TLT, Kyosho Twin force, XTM XFactor, Tamiya Clodbuster, or TXT axles. These kits will provide you with both axles.

Super class.
Thanks I'll check around.

Ok, not a tlt then. Probably the best axles to use is the clod axles for a super. You can also have 4ws on them.

Well I decided to go with a scale rock crawler instead of a super class. I bought a TLT-1 rock buster last night. next is a RBX laydown chassis and links.

For a 2.2 class crawler, you can use Tamiya TLT-1 axles (most common) or HPI Wheely King axles (new but growing in popularity). Some also use Tamiya Clod Buster axles.

Matt, are the Wheelie King axles wider than the Clod's axles?
