It looks like I can make this one. I'll start building my truck this weekend!

Looks like I will see you there finally...now go get your truck ready! I would try and get some practice with it if possible. Work out all the bugs that way you will have a problem free comp. I will be going up as much as I can to make sure my crawler is as capable as possible :) More practice = better crawling come comp day.
So if anybody wants to go up and practice shoot me a pm and I can give you my cell # and we can get together for some setup help, tips, and fun :teacher:

Very cool rig, suckfish. Can't wait to see it in action. Do those RC4WD beadlocks hold those Moabs tight?
suckfish
03-24-2007, 01:27 PM
well they do or would if you could get the tire to seed correctly in them.. still fighting to get one to stay.. Also I would say the quality of machine work is okay not great. I had a few screws that were strip out from the start. I had to re-tap them to hold the screws. But I love the look and being that's its the narrowed version the Moabs look Killer

We'll be having three classes: Super, 2.2 and Trail Rig.
Everybody is familiar with Super and 2.2 classes, but our Trail Rig class is for vehicles that are not pure comp rigs such as small Nylints and 1.9" equipped trucks. Last year, we had a 2.2-equipped but otherwise-stock Nylint compete in the 2.2 class. The Trail Rig class will allow people with trucks such as that and 1.9-equipped trucks to compete and have fun. If a truck with 2.2's blows away the competition in the Trail Rig class, it will be bumped into the regular 2.2 class.
I have a 1.9 beater that I'll be running, and hopefully we'll see at least one new Tamiya F-350.
suckfish
03-24-2007, 05:17 PM
Matt, well I've got a F350 which I was planning on giving it a run.. it would be kinda cool seeing it run, but I do plan on using a jeep body, and saving my nice Lid.. :flame:
MattHiggins
03-24-2007, 05:57 PM
I don't blame you for running the Jeep body. I run an old hard shell Black Foot Ford F-150 body on my Trail Rig. When I get my F-350 I probably have a beater body.

well guys it's getting close to comp day and ofcourse I still have a few questions. Never been to a crawling event is their any electricity available? Is thier facilities as I have been trying to talk one of my daughters into coming down. Now for the important one How long does it normally last? That one is for my wife as too what time I might be back. Got my attack radio in the mail today so the F350 is all set for the trail class & 2.2 comp crawler..
jamesbernatchez
04-02-2007, 05:51 PM
No electricity that I know of...charging if needed will have to be done off of your car. I should have my ICE that if somebody needs something charged I probably can help out there.
There is one porta potty there for everyones use. I cant see the comp being that long...im sure some of use will play a bit longer on the rocks once we are done competing...
Make sure you guys introduce yourself to me...ill be the one with the 2.2 Purplish land cruiser putting a hurtin' on everything else :D :D :D
I might have a super by then but ya never know, or I might have a Baja 5B for after the comp. A bit of bashing perhaps?

guys i would rather you didn't bring any nitros, it will bring unnecessary attention to our group and being a small town park they may not welcome us back if were making a lot of noise.

So the Baja 5B isnt welcome :D
We were running up there last Saturday- Baja 5B, Jato 3.3, and my 8ight and alot of people were coming over and asking us all kinds of questions. The parents liked it too.....plus the kids had a blast  At one point we easily had 20 or so people watching us run. I actually had an older gent come over to me( I thought he was going to tell me to shut it off) but he actually started asking a bunch about it. Turns out he used to be into planes way back when and thought most of the vehicles out were electric. He seemed very interested :teacher:
Ill hold off on bringing it on Saturday for the comp...maybe ill go up Sunday and run it instead.

See you guys tomorrow :)
USA- If you come, its going to be a nice battle between u and me....im running a real BMVii with a nice little supprise for everyone else in the 2.2 class ;) A little tip- get that batt over the front axle so it doesnt limit the articlulation. You might want to turn the tires around. On the rocks we will be crawling, you want all the traction you can get. Body mounting is a pita incase you didnt already know. What motor you runnin'?
Ill be down around 10:15 or so to help set up.
USATorque55
04-06-2007, 02:39 PM
Hah, I'm always up for some friendly competition.
Yeah I'm still playing with setup on the torsion rig, I started it monday morning and finished it a day or two ago.
I was thinking about installing my front dig but when I realized that I often have to push my rear driveshaft over rocks that anything rough[like a dig assembly] will actually hurt me more.
For the comp I'm just throwing on an old T4 shell, eventually it will get proper mounting and an airbrushed shell. I think I'm going to go the route of velcro to the sides.
I'm running a 55T Lathe motor. Its been beat up to hell, but it'll work.
On a side note, is anyone bringing any faster RCs? I've got a brushless XXX-4G+, a brushless FT T4, and a mod rally TC3.
Yeah I'll be there, plans are set.

04-06-2007, 03:08 PM
Im going to bring my Baja 5B and Losi 8ight, but Brandon doesnt want to draw negative attention to the club. Im going to bring them just in case and if I run them it wont be until after the comp is done. I dont think anyone will complain...A baja 5b, jato 3.3, and my 8ight ran there last weekend and we had about 20-30 spectators(moms, dads, kids, etc.) which all seemed like they were enjoying themselves :D A bunch of people even asked questions about them. :teacher:

Thanks, everyone, for coming to the comp. I had a great time and met a lot of great people. A lot of strong trucks and some hard courses. The turnout was very good and all three classes had good numbers.
I can't believe how many people ran the Trail class. That class was a lot of fun. My win was a total gift. Chris' rig is way better and he can wheel it. I'm not too proud to say I got lucky.
Nice win in 2.2, James. You earned it. The next one is mine.
Same to you in Super, Brandon. You made it look too easy, though.

I guess you could say that I did pretty good considering that I pulled the trigger my trucks for the first time this morning.
No I didn't get lost. I've spent many a day at that beach when I was a kid.
NO ONE HAD FOOD.
And it was way to cold to do anything.
