I see some trucks with the shock body mounted at the top (right side up) and some that are mounted with the shaft at the top (up side down). Is it just a looks thing or does it make a difference somehow???

I don't think it makes a difference, but some shocks don't have the clearance on the top as the bottom, so they mount them upside down. That is what i think at least.

It does make a difference, by placing the oil lower you lower the Center Of Gravity (COG) by doing this there is less roll over. Most everything has a reason.

Somehow, i dont think that is going to make a really big difference. Maybe a tiny bit, but probably not going to prevent a rollover if youre going up a hill.

With the shocks upside-down, if you have even a tiny bit of air in the shock, the piston will always be in the air at extention.
Mostly, it's better to have them right side up (shaft down body up) but not always.
Otherwise, I believe savage is right. Mostly for clearance issues.
Correct me if I'm wrong!

Clerence is one of the reasons. But COG is also a reason, most guys do everything they can to lower it.
I did not mean that the shocks alone will prevent a rollover, but lowering the COG as much as possible will help aid in not rolling over.

Yep Main reason is to lower COG...Every little bit helps, and every little adds up.

Yeah, not a big deal for me but for the guys out in moab and stuff, i guess it could be the difference between a win and a loss. Weird, how a simple thing as that could get you the win.
