I have a axe ez and was waundering if you can get NiCad or NiMh batteries instead of li-po.

Yes, you can use NiCad or NiMH batteries instead of LiPo.
You will need to have a pack that is close to the same voltage, and close to the same weight. Since LiPo has a much higher energy density, you will be getting packs with a lower capacity. This will greatly reduce your flight times.
Oh, and make sure that you only charge batteries on a charger designed for each particular battery. Never charge a LiPo battery on a NiMH charger or vice versa.
