hi,
hope you can shed some light for me, i race electric buggies and run all brushless setups and therefore have lots of gear to play around with.
ive just brought a second hand anderson electric boat with all running gear just no electrics.
are any of my brushless systems i have for my car any good to use,
please help im a total newbie with boats and therefore i dont understand what different demands boats put on the motors etc...
the systems i have are

lrp sphere
novak gtb 5.5r
novak gtb 6.5r
and i also have loads of brushed stuff
lrp qc2 waterproof forward only speedo
loads of modified car motors orion reedy etc
ranging in turns from 9 to 27 turn stock
i also intend using my world spec gp3300 cells
can all yhis gear be safeley run in a boat

thanks for your time
dean

some things to keep in mind. cars & trucks use(far as I know) gear reduction setups, most fast electrics are direct drive, so most 'car' motors will be to hot for a boat. the esc's may or may not be able to handle the stress of all out racing w/o allowing for some form of cooling. 27-19t brushed motors do fairly well in 20-22" light weight boats(3lb.s or so, 7.2-7.4v).
rule of thumb for motor rpms is 20-25k for sport use, 25-35k for racing. hth

I think most that run FE BL boats will tell you boats are very hard on ESCs and cells but more so when pushed to the limit...which we all try to do.

I do know many BL ESCs for planes/Heli are now being put in boats with good sucsess. What you WILL need is a small unit sold at www.rc-hydros.com called a Pistix. This will be able to utlize a normal pistol controller and not stick.

We also try to make them as water proof as possible.

You can use car controllers but many in the past of brushed ESC...they were WAAAYY overrated as far as what they could handle...200-300+ amps...not a chance.

For smaller boats with less hungry motors a car ESC would work fine.

in NAMBA there is a class for 27t mono's. i don't see why the LRP esc wouldn't work. in the midwest we run 19t instead, i use a LRP v7.1 controller in mine. the kv ratings of the other motors will determine if you can run them in a boat. it's a well known fact that boats can KILL a car esc if set up wrong. we ask a lot from our gear. if you want a fast sport boat, you can run brushed or brushless. the only brushed classes that most of us run are the 27t/19t monos or the 700 motor classes.

how bout some specs on that boat, we can probably point you in the direction of a good setup.

thanks for all the tips people.good stuff.

well ive had loads of fun, thinks ive got it sussed.
i listened to your advice and fitted a 19t reedy motor my lrp speedo and gp3300s well fast enough for now.lol or is it ? lol
yes it is ,i say that because today i went to the pond with boat, kid, wife, mate and dog, we all had a go, quess who crashed it?
the wife she hit the dog with it by accident it took off in the air and hit the water upside down!! the dog was fine as it only glanced her but enough to send it skyward.
it then spent 20 mins sloooooowly floating to shore, to my amazement the electrics were fine and it didnt sink!!!!!!!!!!!!!
still tempted to try the brushless tho, push the boundries a bit,
maybe get some air without using the dog as a ramp.lol
NO DOGS WERE HARMED
so thanks for all your tips i think im gonna enjoy this boating

as for boat specs its about 25 inches long mono i think? whats mono mean? one hull i presume? it also has wings on front and back
direct drive with seperate rudder :D
