Hello, I would be grateful if somebody could offer me some advice on a good beginner sailboat to buy. I currently have one that is about 20 years old that I've sailed once or twice and I was looking to buy something a bit more decent. Thankyou.

We need some additional info to help you out. Do you want to build a full kit or go with a almost or ready-to-run yacht? Your hull size/sail area requirements will also help to fit your local lake size and/or wind level limits on the hull as well. Finally, do you know if there's any sailing clubs or hobby shops in your area that could give you some advice once you do choose a sailboat?

I really dont mind going from kit or rtr, it depends which is more economical although I would enjoy building it from a kit. The lake nearest my house isnt particularly large although i can go to other lakes i wouldn't want something that large and the wind is not very strong where ive sailed my old sailboat but just enough to get it going. I dont believe there are any clubs or hobbyshops left where I live since the only one i knew recently closed down.

The Thunder Tiger Victoria sailboat might be a good choice for a first R/C yacht. It's a kit that can be modified (just Google it to see the amount of info on it) and it is small enough to fit in most vehicles. Another popular hull is the Soling made by Victor Model Products-but it will take alot more work to get this full-kit ready for water. Again, the Soling has a bunch of online info you can use to help construct it and both of these sailboats can be controlled by a two-channel surface radio system.
