I want to get into racing a gas mono, but I do not know what hull to start with. Also, what hardware is best? I need advice on the best hull and motor to run. I want a motor that I can run a tuned pipe off of and modify to the max! I want this boat running in the 50's or beyond! No offense, but I'd prefer to have experienced racers answering my questions here. I just want don't want to waste my hard-earned money on junk that I am going to toss in a box (or the trash) after just a few runs. What about the Shockwave hull by pro-boat? Who makes the best hull?

You only want experienced racers to respond  First off, a Proboat Shockwave is not a racing hull and the package as a whole will not get you racing.
If you really want to get into racing then I would suggest that you find a local club and pay them a visit. Doing this you will achieve two things a. meet people who can help and advise you, b. find out what they are racing in your area. There is no point buying and building a class of boat that no one else in the area has.
To find the local club and to read up on the classes offered by the organising bodies try
NAMBA (http://www.namba.com)
IMPBA (http://www.impba.net/)
APBA RC (http://www.apba-rcboating.com)
Enjoy the research and enjoy the boat once you have decided what to build :D

w3bby, thanks for the reply. I have joined a club here in Oregon. It is called Emerald Valley RC Boats. I went to my second race today. There are three guys here running gas mono. Two Lazer 45's and an Insane Mono. Does anybody run an Aeromarine Challenger? It seems the Insane monohull design is less stable tat the Lazer 45's. All three are insanely fast! Looks like fun!

The AC Model Boats Lazer 45 is a great hull. I've seen one race in water that would keep others on the shore. I've also seen an Insane hull run in windy and rough conditions. Keep in mind that a boat is only as good as its builder. You can take the best equipment on the market but if it's in the hands of someone who doesn't know what they're doing or thinks that they know more than the manufacturer, it can make the boat look bad.
The Aeromarine Challenger isn't a bad boat but I wouldn't use a lot of their hardware. I'd go with Speedmaster or M&D for a gasser.
Lots of other good hulls out there and any are fully capable of being a winner on any given day. There is even one coming out of China being sold on eBay that isn't bad but I'd get just the hull and not the RTR version.
Currently the best price for a Zenoah is from Warehouse Hobbies, www.whobbies.com either stock or modified. Tuned pipes, there are a ton of them to choose from. I like the Cooper pipe as it's quiet and works great!
Most of what you're looking for that you've asked about is available at one dealer, Brian Watts at www.rocketcityracing.com and he's also the main dealer of AC boats in the US.

Hey thanks Ron,
Yep, I've already gone over the rocketcity racing website and they've got the goods! I'm pretty sold on the Lazer 45 from what I've seen. I'll check out the hardware options a little closer too. Back to surfing..........!

If you are stuck on going with the AC line for a mono, you may want to look at what kind of $$$ you want to spend on entire package (IE motor) you will be going with. The Lazer needs a modded motor (5-6+hp) to get it running good...they are tanks (but built very well). The Razor runs well with a stock 260 and very fast with a modded motor.

But it all comes down to what you like. I currently run a Insane Gen1 Mono with a fullmod 260 that runs 55-57mph on flat water all day. The insane's really pick up in race water, but they can be tricky and you got to be on your toes running one at 50+ in the chop.

Well, Jon from my boat club, Emerald RC Boats, sold his Insane monohull to me! He made me a very fair deal on it. I just needed to get a receiver for it, which just came in yesterday, so I might see if I can get it going this weekend. Now, I need o-rings for the exhaust coupler and I ordered another gas bag. Now I'm up to three boats! I'm sick I tell ya' !!! I've got the bug BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD! :D
