Hello Mr.Lee...
Read your item in MAN June 2007 about using AMSOIL in my engines ...such as O&R 60's, Andy Spitfires, Super Cykes and so on. I've used 3:1 oil/gas ratios since I was a kid in the 30's.
You suggest using AMSOIL 2 stroke in ratios of 32:1...holy cats !!
That's a big a ratio? I'm afraid of starving my old ignition engines with that small a content of oil in the 32:1 ratio. I need your reassurance that ratio is safe....I'd hate to ruin my old time ignition engines I 'm running on gasoline . I'll try AMSOIL if you say so at that 32:1. Maybe a 20:1 ratio? I'm still worried about that much dilution.
I'm in my later years (82) and still going strong and have many OT ignition engines I still run in old timer ships. Drop me a few lines about AMSOIL 2 stroke oil of a specific type I can use in my engines, please.
Thanks and my regards,
P.
Dear P.,
My reference to the use of Amsoil at a 32:1 ratio was regarding use in Tony Diroma's Zenoah G-23 and other larger displacement engines who evolved from the leaf blower, weed wacker type that utilize needle bearing rods, ball bearing supported cranks, etc. You definitely would not want to use a 32:1 ratio in your O~R 60, Anderson Spitfire, etc. I have found Klotz synthetic to work very well in the old time gas burners at a 3:1 mix, i.e., 25% lubrication. The Ohlssons in particular, due to the steel cylinders, need a lot of oil to avoid over-heating.
Best regards,
Clarence Lee
