I enjoy your column, and always read it first on receipt of MANews.
I have been given an old 0.46 Tiger Shark motor (made in China) that had
been crashed and had a bent shaft. I pulled it apart and cleaned off all
the varnish, it does not look if it has done a lot of work and shaft was
easily straightened. I have no manual for the engine.
After re-assembly, (including the alloy head gasket) I found it wanted to
start backwards and would even change from forwards to backwards when
going from an idle to half throttle. The compression feels good, high
speed needle is open 2 and a bit turns, slow speed needle is open 1.5
turns from when air just starts passing with the throttle closed.
Any ideas ?
Regards,
D.
Dear D.,
You probably installed the sleeve backwards. The higher ports are the exhaust.
