Hi Tylernol426,

It's unusual for me to read a Kyosho Wave Chopper with an outboaurd motor mounted on it.. can you please post some photos?

As for your question, the motor I will recommend will depend on the drive system of your outoard motor.

There are two types of outboard motor drive system that I know of, one is the flex shaft driven and the other is the gear driven.

As for the flex shaft model, I have a pretty good and bad experiences with this type of design.. An advantage of this design is the light weight construction and the realistic look of the outboard motor as per looks itself. A major disadvantage is the reliability of a strong shaft.. In my 2 years of using a flex shaft outboard motor, I can vividly remember changing to 9 flex shafts in a year :( .

So in this case motor power is limited due to the reliability of the flex shaft.. I suggest a 19turn 540 type motor at most in your flex shaft outboard.

The other is the gear driven type of outboard motor. I haven't actually had one my own but I have seen several among my rc boating friends.

This type is very reliable as there will be no flex shaft to break. Your motor options will be limitless as the gears can take some beating. Though you should also consider if you are using plastic gears or metal ones...

A disadvantage of the gear driven outboard is the heavy construction and weight and the bulky look diverting it from its realism..

Good luck!

the hull i have isn't a kysho..... its from offshore eletrics. they dont sell it any more. the outboard i have on it is a flex shaft made by Graupner its a Gtx 650. i cut off the keel on the outboard and sharpened the nose cone on it to give it less drag and it runs great now... i used a motor and speed controler on it i had laying around
