I am building my first plane that will be covered with fiberglass. Since I have never worked in this medium before I am looking for guidance on how to do it properly. Some of my questions are:
Should I use epoxy or polyester resin?
Is there another way to adhere the glass to the wood?
Could I use something else and get the same effect?
Any help would be appreciated.

Max. For the first time fiberglass user, I would suggest using Epoxy resin and fiberglass cloth. The best way I have found to adhere the cloth to the wood prior to applying the resin is to use a plastic brush, and wipe it down to cause it to cling (static charge) use small sections of cloth (.75oz.) and cover the bottom first, then the sides and finally the top of the fuselage. then cover the stabilizer and the wings, bottom surfaces first and then the top.
Using Zap finishing resin, mix it 1 part A, 1 part B, and 1 part denatured alcohol. Mix in a cup until it is completely mixed and pour a small amount on the center of the section you are covering. Spread this out with a smooth, plastic squeezee or a simple plastic coated playing card, and spread it out as much as possible without damaging the cloth.
Mix more resin and reapply as needed to cover the entire model. Let dry overnight and then give a light sanding with 220 grit sandpaper to remove the shiney surface, but not cut into the cloth. Apply another coat, and sand again. You can then fill small pin holes with automotive glazing putty and then apply a coat of spray primer. Use more glazing putty sand smooth and reapply primer until all holes are filled. Apply one more layer of primer and then sand with 320 grit.
Apply your finish coats!
An excellent video is available from Dave Platt Models for applying fiberglass colth with polyester resin. It is part of Dave's Black Art Series of model finishing tapes and DVDs. well worth the price.
You can also try using Poly Acrylic floor sealer, but I have not found it as easy to work with as Epoxy thinned with alcohol.
good luck
