It's been far too long since I've built a kit, and after getting the chance to try out drifting, I knew I had to get a touring car. My goal is to have a well-built TC4 with a nice looking AE86 Trueno body that will drift nicely. I'm going to try and document the build as I go as best I can, and I will post it up here as I go through it. I'm going to start posting what I have so far when I get back home tonight.

First, the wheels & tires. The wheels are Pro-Line Attack 26mm, which I dyed black. The tires are ABS.

Second is the body. It's an HPI Toyota Trueno. I was going for a design based off of Takumi Fujiwara's Trueno from Initial D.

Thanks :D I can't wait to get it finished and running, but I'm definitely going to try and document it as best as I can.

To be perfectly honest, I bought them like that. I looked all over, and I couldn't find any ABS pipe, so I bought a cheap set from EBay :o The thing I found out was the decals did not want to stick, so I kinda melted them onto the tires. Not only did it make them stick better, but I think it helped make them look more realistic (if you can call vinyl decals on plastic tubing realistic :p ).

I'm hoping I will have some free time tomorrow night to finish this, or get close to finishing. I also need to find time to repair the servo going into this, and solder new motor leads onto the 27t going into it.

MrCrash

They are definitely dyed. The photo just isn't very good.

oh rite ok.. thats good, you did it proper. Painted wheels look good but they suck as soon as they get chipped..

Keep the photos coming.

sweet build nick! Order the Yokomo wiper, mirror, muffler, and wing kit to really finish off that body! I can show you an easy way to put retracts onthere for the headlights too, just need a 3 channel radio. You definately have the skills to pull the mod off.( besides, lights coming on via remote look so cool!)

Thanks Ron! This body is severely lacking in detail, so any special mods will wait for my next one. I'm considering getting a yokomo AE86, and adding all the little details to it, if I don't get an RX-7"

I cant wait to see that thing drifting around. :)
I just noticed you have 7 batt slots :) so now you can use that Mamba to its full potential. (I only have 6 batt slots)

7 cells+ mamba + ABS = no movement. Nick, keep in mind, Slidewayz runs a 27T Speed Gems in it, and on 6 cells, you still need abnout 1/2 throttle or less to navigate slower, pinpoint drifts, like when i put the nose of it on that cone and drifted around it.

On rubber, it will be SIC! on ABS, i would cut its power back a ton,.....

I definitely plan on tossing in my 27t trinity motor for ABS drifting. If I ever feel like trying drifting on rubber tires, then the mamba gets to go in there.

Well, after a 5+ hour marathon, it's almost done. I just need to mount the ESC, receiver, and body after I get some sleep. Then I'm taking it out for it's maiden voyage :D

Pics will be up after I wake up.

Most of the pics I took are pretty boring, but I will post them later anyway. For now, this:

It's a blast to drive. Unfortunately, I drifted through a mondo bird turd, and coated half the body with crap. I also tagged a couple curbs, and started removing the decals on the tires :(

The body is wider in the rear then the front. Some offset wheels would help, or I might do some deep-dish rims the same way Ron did his.

UPDATE!

I tossed in my Mamba system, and WOW! It was completely uncontrollable, and I split my rear tires in half along one of the lines in the tread by the end of the first pack

That's why I just shake my head to ppl who think they need to slap a BL setup in a drifter. With such a lack of friction, what makes you think a BL would be better? lol

MrCrash
05-20-2007, 10:06 AM
I wasn't trying to drift. It just had so much power, that I kinda could if I tried really hard. I jut wanted to see how fast it would go ;)

XXWoodmanXX
05-20-2007, 10:10 AM
Oh! I thought you had the intention of using it for drifting. lol Yeah, I'd imagine it would wear the ABS down REAL quick, had you went dorifto with it ;)

MrCrash
05-20-2007, 10:25 AM
I couldn't even imagine driving it with the ABS tires and the mamba. It had the same amount of grip with the kit rubber tires and the mamba as it did with the 27t stock motor and the ABS tires.
