Overview
Losi® revolutionized 1/8-scale buggy ready-to-runs with the 8IGHT RTR™ based on the first genuinely new buggy design in more than a decade the 8IGHT. Now they’ve done the same for ready-to-run truggy racers with the 8IGHT-T™ RTR. Starting with the same innovative ultra-narrow chassis and drivetrain layout as the 8IGHT-T Race Roller, the 8IGHT-T RTR packs power and handling superior to the competition right out of the box. Losi’s 427 Big Block engine and tuned exhaust come pre-installed, along with the premium Spektrum® crystal-free DX2.0 radio system for unmatched control. The centrally mounted motor, oversized shocks, thick aluminum chassis, and numerous other ingenious features yield both performance and durability. When it comes to combining ground-breaking design and race-inspired performance in a ready-to-run truggy, no one comes close to the 8IGHT-T RTR from Losi.

Nice looking RTR, though it's listed at $720 on Amainhobbies. Ouch.

for that price, it better be a 4 shoe clutch, and better not have the z590 servos

For that much it better do my laundry.

That's a little too steep of a price. Drop it about 100 dollars and maybe I'll look at it again.....

Okay...this has Spektrum radio gear, a ridiculous Mach 427 engine, a quality exhaust, and the best handling of any truggy out there, and people are complaining about the price? Throw a bit better steering servo in the thing, put it on the track, and you're instantly competitive with anything out there. A little over $700 for all of that?

That's only $100 to $150 more than most other RTR truggies, and this comes with FAR better equipment. What's the deal? If they'd put in a Force .28, a cheap AM radio w/ plastic geared servos, and cheesy exhaust, it would have been $150 bucks less, and then everyone would piss and moan that it's a waste of time to buy the RTR since you'd have to upgrade all of the RTR components to be competitive on the track. Losi decides instead to include awesome equipment and people complain about the price? WTH? If you want the best, shut up and pay for it. If you want mediocrity, there are other RTR truggies on the market that offer that for hundreds of dollars less. Go buy one of those and quit complaining about things that work properly costing more money.

You have to remember that someone buying an RTR is not going to really appreciate the difference between the Crappy AM remote and Spectrum remote, or the Force .28 and the Mach 427, or the fact that the Losi handles a lot better then all the other RTR's..What it comes down to is what is the cheapest and fastest RTR or what is the coolest looking one..I do know the 8ight-t RTR is a great deal for a beginner loooking for a RTR but for a newbie walking into a hobby shop looking for a good inexpensive RTR truggy it will be tough to sell them a $720 RTR.. :teacher: :)

You can get yourself a RACE ROLLER 8ight-T for $560, add $150 for a DX2 with servos, $200 for an engine and pipe comparable to the mach 427 and your getting a better truggy for just a little more money..I would rather spend the extra $200 and get the Pro kit.. :teacher:

I'm inclined to agree with DaMaXXer on both counts. I'm "new" to the hobby after a 15+year break and I like the look of this RTR, and the fact that it comes with quality accessories (engine, radio) but even still $720 is pretty steep (and horizon has it at $750).

Does anyone know what they cheaped out on specifically in the RTR vs. the Pro? Looks like the shocks and towers at least.

At least its not 1500 bucks like a race rig and it performs just as well. (after youve bought everything)

What I'm getting at is that for 720 dollars, it might turn off some buyers, even if they see the list of stuff that comes with it. Maybe if the adjusted the price to, say, 699.99, I think a couple more hobbiests would drop the cash to get it. Don't get me wrong: I love the look of the 8ight-T, but can't buy one with the salary I've got now. (darn allowance!! :o)

I'm hoping that the prices settle out under the $700 mark. I'd also like to know exactly how it differs from the race roller. Pending that I'd be in for $700 based on the radio and reputation. I'd LOVE it if the radio was the 3.0 instead though and would pay extra for that.

I like this truggy. The price is kinda up there but it is one of the best. I like how Losi is selling there race inspired models with the Spectrum radios.

I like that too. Sportwerks is doing that with their turmoil and mayhem ST. I like the idea, and it doesn't add too much to the final cost tally.

I believe that the sportwerks comes with the older "DX2" as opposed to the Losi coming with the current "DX2.0", but I could be wrong.

It is the older DX 2. I probably should have said something. You were right.

I like the look of the 2.0 better than the 2 IMO.

I was pretty excited about this when I first read about it.. but man.. that price really does turn me off. Sure, maybe it's not that abd of a value. But anyone who has that kind of money to spend on a truggy is probably going to go with the pro roller. I don't know, but to me - RTRs should cater more to novices. Most novices don't want to sink that kind of cash in to a single truck. If it were me I'd go with something like the VTX ST-1 for close to half the price - http://www.myhobbydepot.com/servlet/the-20502/Team-VTX-1-fdsh-8-Nitro/Detail

Frankly, the more I think about it the more I like the 8ight-T RTR. I've started pricing out a few other truggies in kit form and then adding in the radio, engine, servos, etc. and it always comes out to more.

I think this particular RTR will appeal to the "new" buyer like myself that has done all their research, knows what they want and where they are going, and especially likes the idea that the radio is well worth keeping. At $750 though I really wish it was the 3.0 and I'd be sold. the 2-model memory of the 2.0 leaves alot to be desired when compared to other 2.4ghz radios like the Futaba Fasst (10-model memory).

If I had a job and money to spare, I would order one on the spot. I love the engine and the radio system looks killer, but the price is just a tad bit too steep for my tastes.

For the money it's an awesome deal. You've gotta think about what you're getting. The 8T is one of the most competative trucks on the market. I highly doubt that this truck differs all that greatly from the "pro-roller", and 75% of the people that are going to buy something like this aren't going to really benefit from those "upgrade parts". The radio is probably the best radio for an RTR vehicle out there. As for the motor, the mach is great. It may not have the ridiculous power of those $300-400 italian mills, but it's still an awesome motor. If I didn't just buy another truggy, I would jump all over this...and might still

Until I can find out what exactly those changes are I'm holding off. And if it gets a bit cheaper in the next few months while I research it, so much the better. :D

What truggy did you just buy? if you don't mind me asking.

Snagged a Hellfire SS while they were $280

Oooooooh, good score. For 280, you can't beat that kind of price.

I work for a hobbie shop and horizon told us map will be $670. The 8ight buggy map is $650 with same radio and motor so 720 seems high to me, but we still have not recived ours yet and price may of gone up but i dought it.. Its a great deal if you want to buy a truggy and go race, as we all know most race riggs cost over 1000 once your done.

rob_s
06-02-2007, 08:57 AM
At $670 I think they'll seel all of these they can make.

vaderbxman

Agreed. 670 sounds more reasonable.

If you do a little online shopping the 8T rtr can be found for less... I know where to get the rtr for under 600 bucks :) In fact it's only about 30 bucks more than what I paid for my race roller 8T...
