good guess, but no. I have been painting similar styles of this paint job for years. I painted this one not too long ago, but I have done the same pattern and different colors plus a slightly altered pattern with same or different colors.
This paint job is usually one I sell for some good money because everyone seems to like my "trademark" paint job. On a body like this, I would charge about $100 and the customer is willing to pay every penny of it. The labor isn't worth that much, but because people are willing to buy this paint job, I raise the price. If it wern't at a high demand, this body would be sold for about $60.
I have done the same job with candy green, candy red, candy purple, lime green, candy blue, change blue, etc.

chicago, your bodies are simply awesome, but the day I pay $100 for ANY body (I don't care if its signed by Gil Losi/Matt Francis/Adam Drake himself) will be the day hell freezes over

100 is really high for this body. I have it set that high because I am very attached to this specific body. I set it that high not because I expect people to pay that much, but in the often event somebody is willing to pay that much for it, I will gladly sell it for 100.
This is the best body I have done in this fashion, which is why I am attached.

I know you guys thing the price is outrageous, but when I have my body on the counter for display at the shop, you wouldn't believe the offers I get. The first body I every painted was also an HPI stang. It was basic blue with white stripes. A guy offered $50 for it. I didn't sell it cause it was my first body.
This curent stang you see in the picture has been attempted to be stolen 2 times already. Both I caught the different people trying to walk out with it. That is why I no longer put it on display at the shop.

BIG NEWS: I just got a letter from the chief editor of RC Car Action notifying me that this very Mustang GTR body will be in the "Readers Rides" section of their October issue of the magazine! I don't know what image they chose to use, but its one of the 3 shown that have the body semi-mounted onto the 4tec.
Glad everyone likes it so much.
THANK YOU RC CAR ACTION! I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!

They should have a whole page in the mag! Most of the pros don't get in there anyway because they sell the bodies so fast. Although ADRC was in this months mag with his Widow body. That thing is by FAR my favorite body I have EVER seen.
I will just be happy to see my body in a mass media magazine! : )
BTW: I am in the intermediate class.

I am sorry but I can't see how anyone would pay $100 for that. The scheme is nice but there are several bad spots. The window trim doesn't meet properly, the paint isn't backed, the mask isn't cut straight. Sorry again I just don't see it.

Like I said before, 100 isn't the value, its just what I have been offered before. I wouldn't even come close to selling it at that price, but if its offered, well...thats another story.

How is this so impecably hard for you guys to understand. I have said very clearly... I don't charge nor value my car bodies at that price. 100 is just what I have been offered for it before. The most I have ever charged for a car body is 60.

The reason I said charge in what you quoted, is because if somebody offered that, I would accept all of it. I would never set it on the counter with a tag that says 100 on it, it would say at most 60.

I think I stand by my point that its not worth 100, nor do I charge that much. I just simply get offered high prices from shop goers every once in a while.

I find that you get the same performance with 20% fuel as you do with 30% fuel. If you tune the 20% right, you actually can get faster lap times. A lot of it is because you don't go through fuel as fast.

The problem is that you guys don't usually have the big gallons of 20%, just 30%. It's good that I'll have one more week to test&tune, maybe get some new tires.
Davec, I'll look for ya. I'll be running a black BMW with closed wheel arches and a blue wing, easy to spot. :)

If you run Traxxas, we have GALLONS of 20% and very little 33%. What fuel do you use, we usualy have 20% in others.

I used Traxxas for a while, but on the day that I went to pick up fuel you guys where out of the big gallons of 20% (That was a while ago, though. My car was stopped for months due to a radio failure, ended up ordering and purchasing a new radio at your shop.) Right before the race I might pick up one of 20%.

08-22-2007, 09:34 PM
Thanks.
The lines are like that because I free handed it with an exacto knife. Anybody have any tips for getting straight lines when using liquid mask?
davec-nitro-rs4
08-23-2007, 11:35 AM
Boy, they look pretty darn straight, to me anyway.... a perfectly straight line is a bitch to cut with the knife...easier to tape or use masking vinyl that you cut on the flat bench and then install in the shell for paint...
Ian, HT Aurora is racing this weekend, right?
chicagonative17
08-23-2007, 11:52 AM
Everytime I use masking other than liquid, I always get a bleed through no matter how tight I crease the mask. Thats why I use liquid and freehand cut everything. I will give it a go though, just to see if I have better luck.
We have races every other saturday, so there should be one this upcoming saturday if I am not mistaken.
davec-nitro-rs4
08-23-2007, 12:09 PM
3M makes a green masking tape for painting that you can buy at AutoZone, and maybe Pep Boys. It sticks down tight...give it a try.
C0NTENDER
08-23-2007, 10:06 PM
Unfortantely,I don't have any thing recent to show with straight lines. I have never had much success with liquid mask, but that's because I don't have a steady hand when cutting.
When I first saw this one, I could tell the lines were cut by hand :), but it's still a decent job. Just keep it up, or try different techniques and you lines will improve in time.

Ian, got my copy of the mag yesterday and saw the Mustang in there...looking good. On the opposite page there is a yellow Revo by Jerry Cross..he's another ChiTown RC guy that can really build and paint an RC. He goes by Obsessive F/X.
chicagonative17

That is quite a coincidence. I don't know him, but I think I have heard the name before through hobbytown. The paint job on that revo is pretty sweet.

Hey guys, what a great race. I don't know if any of you guys where there (I was trying to figure it out but just couldn't) but I believe that you certainly took notice of me... I was with the only Nitro touring car of the day, couldn't race the first main because my engine was flooded, quit the second main due to my receiver battery that popped out and was being dragged around the track, and I crashed on Peter's car on the last main (An accident. Someone touched him and I ended up T-boning him...) I am happy with my car, it is very fast on the straights, but I am not happy with my driving skills and my tires (My car just can't corner). Driving skills don't require any money to be fixed, though...
My brother was pretty upset. He got last place on the first and second main, but he crashed and lost a bolt from a half shaft. Despite the last place and cutting off some people on the track, he raced well and I'm proud of him!
Well, tomorrow is last day of summer vacations and F1 racing day, so I say C you guys later and take care! Good race!

You can use foams by GRP. Or you can put a ristrictor in the carb of the .18.

Ace, being the only nitro TC there, did you just run with the electrics? Was that any advantage? Do most electrics runs brushed or BL there?
PocketAce
08-27-2007, 10:46 AM
I ran with the electrics, yes. No advantages at all. I could overtake everyone on the straights, but I would be taken out on the corners by everyone back. My car would just slide too much, I needed to brake it to an almost stop before cornering. Now, the class was stock electric, but I saw some carbon fiber chassis and different engines, and my brother (with a bone stock electric TC4) Couldn't keep up with the top 3.
davec-nitro-rs4
08-27-2007, 11:04 AM
By stock they mean 27T motors, right?
Last time I watched the races at HTUSA the layout was a big zig-zag layout with just one long front straight past the drivers stand....do they mix it up and change the layouts, or is it always a twisty, switchback affair? It seemed that it would favor a good turner over a high speed car.
PocketAce
08-27-2007, 12:19 PM
It did. The layout had a long straight, a long corner to the left at about 120 degrees, then another straight. From there we had an infield with a left turn followed by a chicane, another left turn, right turn and a turn that lead to the first straight. And I don't know what they meant exactly by stock electric (you must know much more then me)...
