Monster Madness officially kicks off on Saturday and I spent some time at the track today to give a hand and check it out. The main track was finished early this afternoon and the RCMTRA guys will finish the solid axle side-by-side track on Friday. People are already trying out the layout on the main track and I’m sure we’ll have a lot more on Friday. This is the biggest track that the guys at Wolcott Hobby have ever made. It’s sweet. Here are some teaser shots for now.

I really love the Monster Jam-like side by side track complete with "junker" bodies. Great attention to detail, and this thing looks like its gonna be a blast. I wish I could be there...

Today is open practice at the track for those of you who could get the day off to play. It’s windy up here so bring something to tie your tent to. Tomorrow we’ll have practice from 9 to 10:30 and racing starts at 11. The hobby shop is located on route 69 in Wolcott. Look for the Sherman tank across the street.

Well, I first have to say Im a bit disappointed. I took over 200 pics, and thought I had a lot of awesome shots. All in all, only 50 or so came out decent. Here's a few. You can www.wolcotthobby.com in the media section later in the week for all of my pics.

Thanks for posting the photos! It figures the one shot you take of our tent the Model Airplane News side is showing. I'll have to turn that around tomorrow! :)

The track is big, dialed, and a lot of fun to race on. Hopefully we'll see some of you there even if you don't plan on racing. The guys from CEN and Traxxas are in the house and they're very fast. We have a big pile of toys to give out so maybe some of you will get hooked up. It looks like this is going to be the best Monster Madness race yet.

Speaking of Cen, lol...I thought I had a killer pic of Sytsma tumbling off the BIG AIR back stretch jump...Im very disappointed to say it didn't come out, lol. No offense Chris, lol..it just would have been a good pic. I'll be around tomorrow and Sunday to get as many more pics as I can, depending on how much I end up pitting/cornering.

Basically, the red SUV apparently hit the silver Toyota, then veered into the parking lot, slamming this once gorgeous 25th anniversary edition T/A. It was then pushed into the green car which in turn was pushed into Kev's BRAND NEW!!! pickup.

I showed up to the track at 7 this morning and half the parking lot was full and everyone was setting up and couldn’t wait to hit the dirt. The track was open for practice at 9 and ended around 11. The track was watered for the start of the race. Monster Madness started off with a bang. No, really, there was a big bang at the front of the store just before the drivers meeting. 5 cars were involved and three of them were parked in the parking lot. My truck included. Luckly no one was hurt and 4 out of the 5 cars involved had to be towed away. I got away with a few scratches and two small dents in the rear fender.

Ok, back to the action. The layout is the largest ever at Wolcott Hobby and has its fast sections as well as some tricky ones. You really have to be on your game for the jumps. Getting the timing right on them is very important. If you line up just right for the triples and quads you can clear them but doing that every lap is not the easiest thing to do and we saw a lot of tumbles off of them at the day went on. The track started off smooth but some ruts had developed by the end of round 1 and continued to worsen by the end of round 2. If you catch a rut with the back tire, it will spin your truck around and you might not end up in the right direction like when I came onto the straight with my Revo in the small block class. I was heading in the right direction and the next thing I know my truck did a 180 degree turn.

We were only able to get 3 rounds of gas truck and 1/8-buggy and 2 rounds of the other classes in today due to the late start. We’ll continue tomorrow at 10 with prized being given out at 9 and open practice at 9:30. Below you’ll find the standings for every class as of right now and some action shots from today.

We were able to squeeze in 4 rounds of the side-by-side solid axle trucks in today. The course looks awesome and is very hard to run on. The lanes are very narrow and the trucks are bouncy which is making for some interesting racing. Right now Rob Allgeyer is in the lead with my Kyosho Twin Force. I have to stop letting him borrow trucks for these races! He keeps beating me with them. We’ll get in more rounds of racing tomorrow and right now it looks like Rob will run away with another win at Monster Madness. I think I have to kick up my game tomorrow or mess with his truck.

Once again everyone hit the track early and we were happy to see another beautiful day with a lot less wind that the other two. We started off the day finishing the third round of qualifying and ended around 11. There was a 45 minutes break to fix and water the track and then it was time to get into the mains. The lower mains were five and ten minutes long the B-mains were fifteen minutes long and the A mains had different times for each class; electric monster truck 6 minutes, Gas truck 15 minutes, big block and small block monster truck 20 minutes, and truggy and buggy 30 minutes. The track dried out quickly during the mains so traction was somewhat limited. That made for a lot of on your toes driving. The A-mains were very exciting to watch; those guys are good.

And the winners are……..

I've got to say, LD3 is an amazing guy. Not only did he take TONS of awesome photos but he was out there breaking his back corner marshaling for just about every race on Sunday. Dude, thanks for all your hard work behind the lens and on the track.

And this SuckFish thing...these guys seem very cool...dedicated enthusiasts. It's nice to see guys go to a big event like this and be just fine about where they stack up vs the pros. For what it's worth, it made me feel better about my own C main status. They go for fun and that's what this hobby is all about. Having a good time win or loose, and hanging out with good friends.

Sorry about breaking the pull starter on your truck :o The chick at Starbucks put too much spinach in my florentine breakfast sandwich. Good thing I didn't spring for the Dark roast coffee, probably would've pulled the engine right out of the chassis.

You know, I think there are two racers at Wolcott Hobby and Raceway who go well above and beyond the call for corner marshall responsibilities - Rob Lindemann and Paulo Correia. Rob, I don't think the race weekend would have been nearly as successful or run as smoothly without your help and devotion to the rest of the guys at the track! Thanks again dude!:winner::winner::winner:

I agree 100%

Rob has even gone to enfield in the past years to marshall and he "didn't" even race. I'm not sure who Paulo Correia is but thanks just the same !!

Paulo is a local racer who runs a Hyper 8 buggy with a new Jammin' motor. His car is one of those that had ot be towed away as a result of the car crash saturday morning.

I have gotten to know Paulo very well over the past few months, and he is a great guy. He has only been racing for less than a year, but his driving skills and wrenching skills have improved by leaps and bounds. But the main thing that impresses me is his enthusiasm and efforts to better the sport in his own eyes. He is ALWAYS marshalling, even when it's not his turn, or when he has his own car ot work on. Atmittedly, he is not the greatest driver, and usually crashes quite a bit, but without people like him races would simply not finish on time.

I think more local hotshoes need to recognize people like Rob and Paulo more, and the efforts they put in. With modern race scheduling, it is simply IMPOSSIBLE to obtain the proper amounts of turn marshalls on a regular basis for the A-Main races without the efforts of volunteers like Rob and Paulo, to name a few. I have run the race program a few times at Wolcott, and on nearly every occasion, I have had to slightly postpone the A-mains for several classes because the people who were supposed to be marshalling were in fact, pitting for drivers in the A-main and could not do their duty. I'm not mad that these people did this - but they need to find replacements for themselves. Most do not do this, and as a result, we have a deficiency of marshals.

This is just the nature of modern nitro off-road racing. Drivers need at least one other person at the track to pit for them. If there is a very limited number of racers, but race organizers still insist on putting 10 cars in the A-main, there will always be a shortage of corner marshals at both club races and smaller-turnout trophy races.

Thx again for the props...I can't say that enough :)

One thing I do wanna add to Pete's statement though...
I consider myself to be very blessed. Your comment about local hot shoes IS totally on the mark...however, I gotta say, the w/end was not without it's "trophies" for me. Guys like Dan Gomez, Justin Williams, Gary Kosits, Mike Giorgi, and one who still remains unknown to me (ask Lester, he'll know what I mean) were exceptionally good to me. I also gotta some give props to Toofless and Huckleberry Bros. Also, I can't possibly say enough about Les...he gave me what was probably the biggest compliment I have ever recieved from the RC community. He knows about that too.

Rather than using the upload feature to post a pic from my cpu, I upload pics to my PB page, then copy the IMG code link from PB and paste it here into the dialogue.

Sorry about breaking the pull starter on your truck :o The chick at Starbucks put too much spinach in my florentine breakfast sandwich. Good thing I didn't spring for the Dark roast coffee, probably would've pulled the engine right out of the chassis.

I'll say this, never have I seen a corner marshall sprint to a flipped car like Rob Lindeman did this weekend. Man you deserve a trophy for #1 marshall :winner:

Mugen no problem good to know someone else likes spinach too.. I should of known better and put my roto start on..

and you guys who marshalled the last mains were just incredible on thier efforts..
