Just bought a new Saito GK-56 for my H9 (40) P-51 Mustang. Any of you engine Guru's out there have any tips or tricks for getting and keeping my new engiine at its "Peak Proformance" level?
Current engine sataus: New, never been started yet.

Best tip I can come up with is to read the owner's manual from cover to cover about six times before even putting a prop on the engine and then adhere to every bit of information in the manual after that.
The people that make the engine know how to keep it reliable and performing properly.
If you have a problem in the operation of the engine, there should be a "troubleshooting " section of the manual that will bail you out 90% of the time.
Rarely, there will be an engine that suffers from "ganged tolerances", which is sort of a glitch in the manufacturing process, or from being made at 4:45 on a Friday:
The factory will most likely solve these latter problems for you.
Good luck.

Thanks for your responce tandemairbike...actually I have read the manual cover to cover 20 times :D and just finished my "break-in" of the motor...according to the manual letter for letter. Here are a couple of shots from the inital run-ins. I chose to use my engine stand for the process rather than a plane...

Total Time: 50 minutes (@ 10 min intervials, 1/8 turn "Lean"each segment)
Fuel: Cool Power 15%
Prop: Master Airscrew 12x6
Speeds: 4000-5000 RPM MAX (@ VERY RICH settings)

As long as you are doing what the manual says you are on the right track. you should enjoy many trouble free hours from your Saito engine. they are a well made ,quality product.

Hi AZFlyer,

Just two important tips:

After the first hour adjust your valve clearance and check it again after the 3rd hour and then every 10 hours or so. Saitos are very tolerant and will work fine with bad clearance but you'll lose a lot of power that way and get bad feul economy.
Use after run oil after every day at the field!

That's it, hope it helps. Saitos Rule!
