View Full Version : Ofna Dominator
i just pulled this truck out of the closet after sitting for a couple years. just wondering what your guys views are on this truck, is it a quality truck, is it competitive? Also where could i find parts for this stock and aftermarket. And when looking for a new shell what will fit this truck? sorry but im fairly new to this rc world lol. oh yea it does not have the stock motor instead its been replaced with an Omega xt .21 any good?

The Dominator is a great truck. But not the best to compete with because it is an old design. I've had my Dom for years now and I love it. You can get parts here---->http://http://www.nitrohouse.com/ofna_dominator1.htm
Lets see some pics of that old Dominator:cool:
EDIT: That's weird, I can't seem to post the link correctly:rolleyes: Someone let me know if the link is working please.
Or try this...

If you look closely at the outdrive coming out of the front diff. You'll notice there are grub screws that screw in and tighten the outdrive to the output shaft coming out of the diff. You may need to either tight it down and thread lock it. Or the grub screw may be missing altogether. I'm almost 100% certain this is why you don't have front wheel drive. Take a look and let me know. If not we'll figure something else out.
HA! well what do you know its completly missing... how did i miss that! thank you, ill have to run down to the hardware store and get a couple spares

Great! Better a cheap little grub screw than something more expensive.

i have 2 of them.one im gettin rid of and then my baby that is almost all aluminum with the picco .21P7,2 speed, front and rear brakes.i also have the center differential for it among other goodies.love that truck its one of 4 of my collection that im keeping.everything else is finding new homes.
but the grub screws are a common thing to fly out.im always loseing them no matter how much loctite i use on them, ive even tried the red loctite .another problem is it likes to twist and snap the rear dogbones constantly.the center diff took care of that problem.get the center diff for it and it makes a great racer

Aside from those pesky grub screws. The only other recurring problem I have is I always puncture the fuel tank towards the front end. But that's cause I usually bash it. But if you look, you'll notice front steering top plate is only about 1/4" away from the fuel tank. So even a moderate nose dive will result in a punctured fuel tank.

never had that problem.only problem i had with the fuel tank is the gasket on the cap leaking.its a great truck though
ABSOLUTE PILE OF ****! if tightend, re tightend and quadruple tightend every set screw on this sob and sure it will go for a good five minutes but then boom nothin, just the drive line free spinning.. none of them have come loose and everything is still tight as possible,. iv had the rear end torn apart four times now this is beyond frustrating im about to consider just throwing it away..

your diffs might need to be shimmd too. my pirate needed a few and it was great after i shimmed em.
tadium can you explain shimmd? and i apologize for earliers out burst i think i have resolved the problem....alot of locktight seems to be fine for now but thats how it seemed the last four times.. only time will tell

Yeah those little grub screws are a beeotch on the Dom. It was a serious design flaw. Just keep em threadlocked and check before & after every run. And also keep some spare ones on hand.

sure. theres sometimes excessive play in the diffs that cause them to lose power. shims are sometimes placed between the pinnion gear and bearing and/or the outdrive bearing and ring gear. its somewhat trial and error. add them until the diff is tight, then remove one(if you add to both the pinnion and ring, remove 2), and the diff will be much tighter than before.
