I've been into gas powered boats for a while and still enjoying it but I want to try something new, these trucks look pretty cool, i've been looking at the Traxxas T-Maxx and Revo 3.3. Are these any good to start out with or is something better out there? I have two gas boats one is a Bonzi Fountain 64 which is new and the other is a Traxxas Nitro vee. I'm keeping the Bonzi and selling the Nitro Vee which is like new, only 9 months old, if anyone is interested.

well i would reccomend the revo 3.3 as it is quick durable and has great handling.i drove one a couple o times an its fast an hadles better then my savage but thats fixable. if you the most durable rc truck then the savage is the way too go. the rtr ones arn that quick but thay have mad torque. plus to get them to handle better all you need to do is get some lcg tvps and mid-tank it and its a night and day thing. i have a savage .21 that i got and i recently put an axial .28 in it and it flies!!!! and i geared it for speed and it keeps up with the revo 3.3. another good option is the LST and MGT.

So it handles better and is faster than the T-Maxx 3.3?

I would say check what brand parts you local shop carries.

The Revo is lower and wider.

if you want to consider racing get the revo.

ok heres my oppions:
*Revo:fast, good handling, ok jumping. Traxxas champion. Great racer without lots of modification. (2.5R, 3.3)
**Tmaxx-ok speed, great jumping, ok handling. The original Monster. Good basher. Possible racer. ( 2.5, 2.5r, 3.3)
**Lst line-big block power, great oversized shocks absorb jumps well, ok handling. Losis BB powerhouse. Overall just about in the middle. You can easily go all out racing or all out bashing. Great overall truck. (Lst1, Lst2, Aftershock, Muggy)
Savage- good speed, BB, ok handling, great jumping. King of Bashing. While the Tmaxx is a good basher HPI out performs the Maxx series in bashing. Great looking truck with the strength of 10 oxes. (Savage X, Savage 4.6)

*Driven
**Own

Thanks for the info. Who sells the savage and what's the top speed?

lordoftraxxas

HPI sells the Savage line up of trucks. The Savage X is 45mph and the Savage X is about 40mph. Take or add a couple of miles because the factories trucks are perfectly tuned during testing you know.

if you will do racing, get the revo

if you want bashing more, get the t maxx

and revo and t maxx are lighter than other big block monsters..

and i heard that trx3.3 engine makes less noise than other big blocks..:D

and onemore good thing of tmaxx3.3

if you buy tmaxx 3.3..

chrome resonance thing is free!!!!

yeah thats a good thing right now but you have to buy from your LHS. Its traxxas' aftermarket pipe for the tmaxx the Resonator and its ROAR legal meaning you can race with it.

No budget, just want something that's gonna hold together on rough terrain. Do these have reverse?

if you have no budget i would strongly reccomend the losi lst2. its a great truck, its fast, durable, easy to work on and the huge factor is awesome. there is tons of info on it over at lstforums.com. the lst2 will hold on rough terrain like no other, and it has reverse

savage:cool: or lst; lst 2;) though. savage isnt as fast because they are geared for mad wheelies. but i dunno i think my friends lst is defective:eek: he breaks his all the time and we do the old if i do this you do it thing. so he jumps and breaks a suspension arm and stuff and i think man my savy is gunna fall apart:eek:!!! but nope savage comes out clean minus a body. so i think savy is the king of bashing. but thats just from seeing my friends.

I have a t-maxx with a few mods for me its just what i wanted.
I just plain dont like the looks of the revo (I think it looks like a truggy not a monster truck).
Other than that theres nothing i can say bad about them.
I have had many rc's both electric and nitro over my 27 years or so in rc and i must say my T-Maxx has been one of my favorites.
With very little tweeking its very nimble and quick for its fat stance.
I've also found it to be very tough and takes way more than i figured it was going to from all I've read.

I must also say that this is just my experiance with the maxx others may have had less luck than I've had with mine.
I've only had engine problems(what i get for buying used engines :D)

Also I dont think any other monster truck has soooo many upgrades avilable as the T-Maxx does its crazy you with out a budget could build the most awsome toughest T-Maxx ever seen.
just my $0.02:teacher:

Ok more like $0.12 lmao

I had the engine in my Bonzi upgraded and I love it, i'll probably do the same with the truck once I get used it. What kind of upgrades are you talking about?

What kind of upgrades are you talking about?

If its a part on the T-maxx theres like 5-10 companys making an upgraded replacement part.

Anything from A-Arms to zip ties lol

wow.. the chrome resonance thing... in rc we call that a exaust pipe... NOW YOU KNOW!!!!

if your just bashing.. go for the savvy.. hands down.

the only thing really worth getting from traxxas thats nitro is the revo.. and id only get that if your racing. other than that there is no other choice but a savvy

Man LST2, RPM a-arms, new era spindles, BAC link, titanium turnbuckle for rpm a-arms, FOC,lunsford turnbuckles, and thats pretty much it you have yourself a bullet proof ride, that has VERY tight steering, bullet proof a-arms, and very strong steering system.

But eh the GST is pretty good, just the engine is overratted, not to powerful.

I went to my local hobby store and looked the T Maxx and talked to some people there that owned them and they also said that was the one to buy, so I think i'm going to go with the T Maxx. I'm definatley going to put all of the upgrades on it, so i'll probably have a lot more questions for you guys as I go.

It's going to need alot of upgrade, but anyway....... Good luck! :D

The T-maxx isn't half as bad as most of these people make it out to be. I had one of the original T-maxxs shortly after they came out, and it certainly had it's fair share of issues, and I didn't particularly care for it. However, since then they've had 2 more versions and traxxas is pretty good about fixing complaints that people have with the trucks so I'm sure the new one is much better, and that 3.3 definitely screams. You should be fine with it. You could walk into your LHS, blindly pick any truck made by a brand name manufacturer and have more than enough fun with it to make the purchase worth while.
The "best truck" threads are usually useless because with the technology today, everything is based on matter of opinion. Personally I say find a truck that you like the look of and go with that. An MT is an MT and chances are it's going to be able to do what you want it to do.

thats a good choice. it is a very good MT to start off with anyways. you dont need to uprgrade it the second you get it though. i didnt start upgrading mine until after about 2 yrs (my friend got a revo and could woop my ass at almost everything)
