Esteemed R/C experts and ethusiasts,

I just busted out the Savage for the summer, and I'm having a few issues that I never really resolved last season... The truck seems to bog down whenever it starts and stalls after about 30 seconds, it sounds very baratone for lack of a better word (very low tone and sounds "growly"). It'll idle on it's own and doesn't roll foreward or anything, but as soon as you open up the throttle a decent amount it just clicks out. I did a pinch test, and it takes the car about 10-12 seconds to die off, but it does sound much better during the pinch. I've leaned out the high speed needle from the factory default of "flush with the groove" about a full turn or so 1/8 at a time, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I haven't touched the LSN or the idle screw for fear of botching up my new engine (not too experienced in the hobby, needless to say), so should I think of leaning out the low speed needle slightly then adjusting the HSN accordingly afterwards? I don't have a temp gauge, but the pinch test takes way too long, so I'm fairly sure that we're running too rich, especially since the car dies out if you apply any decent throttle (When the tank runs low on gas, it runs great!). I've been through about 5-6 tanks of gas, and I did the break in without letting the wheels touch the ground by the books to a T.

Any suggestions to help break the truck into the tuning clear? Thanks for all your help in advance!

you are either way rich or way lean. I am going to say way rich. I think this is due to not touching the LSN. It is set rich from the factory, so not touching it would make it too rich. The best way to tune it would be to tune the HSN first, and then do a pinch test. It should take 2-3 seconds to die when the line is pinched. If it takes more, lean the low speed a bit. Hope this helps.

Those videos are awesome! My pinch test is about 10-12 seconds, so I should only worry about the HSN after leaning the LSN just slightly? I'll give that a try tomorrow, when I do pinch the line the engine sounds amazing and I can't wait to let r rip at a proper tune!

thanks for your tips, let me know if anybody thinks of anything else worth tinkering with!

Those videos are awesome! My pinch test is about 10-12 seconds, so I should only worry about the HSN after leaning the LSN just slightly? Normally, you dont touch the LSN until the HSN is tuned properly. In this case, you would be ok with leaning the LSN a little first, but since the HSN regulates the flow of fuel into the carb, it will also affect LSN settings.
