i want a muggy.
I run a -what used to be HPI MT2, now its all sorts of different - but still fun, and keeps up with other more pricy stuff at the track when i rarely race.
anyway, I want a fun, tough, competitive, bashable, good handling-jumping large 20+" long truck.
(A arms break on everything - theyre cheap, and easy to fix)
It needs good aftermarket support, upgradeable...
The muggy seems to fit these from what i can find here and other places on the www... but however alot of people seem to be upset with it too. has the clutch problem been fixed, if not is it cheap to? and is chassis flex that big a deal? what else?
any help would be awesome
thanks in advance!

You want it bulletproof? RPM a-arms with lunsford tie rods, lunsford turnbuckles, upgraded steering rack, and new era spindles. Might also want a HD chassis as well. Don't hear any issues about flex in the chassis. Just the clutch overheating. Usually getting smaller truggy wheels fix the problem. As well as replacing the clutch bell with vented, and a vented flywheel, and dynamite clutch shoes. That usually fixes the issue with stock wheels. Other then that they are great out of the box. Even stock a-arms are great.

The Muggy is pretty much the man for the price. Yes..you can find better a better truggy, but not for the price. Gear it down, put 17mm hexes and standard truggy wheels and tires on it, and kick some ass. Personally, I'd by the HD chassis and the Speedtech Nitro carbon kit for it, but I wouldn't say they're necessary. If you're really worried about chassis flex, pick up the the HD chassis and the one piece motor mount. The mount is made for bump start engines so you'll have to Dremel it a bunch if you leave the stock engine in, but it will still stiffen up the middle section of the chassis. Other than that...go rally it and have a good time. I don't have one yet, but I do plan on getting one...it's just a badass truck.

ya with the few mods mentioned above the muggy is really sweet, a couple people race them at the local track and hang with the high end truggies. plus they bash well too. oh and if you need help there is tons of info and stuff here www.lstforums.com

Ya lstforums ftw :D
You know what I noticed, your probably better off just getting a 8ight rtr for the $100+ more. Don't see the value in the muggy anymore :S

thanks all! I like the 8T, but Im looking for more of a truck. the muggy seems more of a truck than the 8. anyone know about the associated nitro truck? mgt4.6se..?

Yes its a great truck. I think you can expect more from a 8T then a muggy though.
Overall out of the box they can take a good beating. Some good upgrades would probably be better wheels. Maybe even running 20mm AFT hexes with LST2 wheels. I tried it runs awesome !! Its really a great bashing wheels, and the rims are very strong. Some also like to change the shock caps to alum.
Which one has more suspension travel? The muggy or the 8T?

Id think the 8ight T. But its probably almost the same.

wow really? the 8T has more susp travel? what was the point of losi creating the muggy then if they have all the bases covered with the 8T? Ive seen the muggy (on a shelf) and youTube, but the 8T - never, plus its 100 more... what is the difference betwwen the 2? why does the muggy exist? to compete with the revo? hybrid basher/competion rig??

I believe that the Muggy was a fill-in for Losi while they developed a dedicated Truggy. The Muggy has alot of similarities with the LST and it was easy for Losi to make some minor changes to get something out the door.
I wanted a Muggy pretty bad, and still kind of do, but the 8T RTR is just too much to pass up. I think that the radio alone makes the 8T RTR a better deal.

For racing, the 8T is the better buy...but for bashing, it's a toss-up, and it probably leans towards the Muggy if you're one of the many people who already owns an LST since they share some parts.
