Hello all, I would like to solicit your help with the following problem. I have a Tower Hobbies tariner that came as an ARF, well I cartwheeled the darn thing and after the rebuild I cannot seem to keep the engine lit. It will start and hold an idle BUT, when I try to open the throttle it will sputter and just die. I cannot seem to get it to hold wide open throttle regardless of what I do. Any suggentions on how to find a solution to my problem? The engine in question is the Tower Hobbies .46 Ball Bearing ABC Schnuerle & Muffler that came with the plane. Your cooperation in this matter will be appreciated.

Hello Jim, all I have tried so far is to change the needle settings. When I tried to start the angine after the crash it gave me the impression that it was too rich. I leaned it out a bit and the power seemed to pick up, but in doing so the engine just turned itself off. Like I said it will hold at idle, anything over half stick on throttle will make the engine die.

lets see now hmmmmm take the engine out then the carb blow on the tube to see how much air is getting through and that is fuel in other terms:)
and then play with the idle needle in tall the airscome out at a steady rate then try starting it again
it could be to little air going on to fuel mixture or not enough fuel when you open throtle have a go at that

or there is a other thing that could be it you might need to leave to glow starter in to worm the clinder up to make it start easy (if on a cold or windy day)

Thanks Jim, I will try that as soon as I get home from Work. Do you thik that the main shaft might be bent? or do you think that this is just a fuel air mixture problem?

well if the engine start i think the is nothing wronge with it or it might need a clean or a look other.. and check the bearings (might need a bit of oiling) and most of all check the piston lol that a little bitch to get out and back in...:p (after running the engine and check for a black or brown mark on top of it) and if there is the engine is running ok so could to the fueling to air mixture lol:roll2:

After a cartwheel landing, the clunk in the fuel tank might have been knocked forward and/or out of proper position. This would cause the engine to behave erraticly. Before you take the engine out, check to make sure the clunk is free. You can tell if you hold the fuselage nose up and shake it. You should hear the clunk rattling if it is free. If it does not rattle you must remove the tank and solve the problem. Banging on the side of the fuselage will most likely free a stuck clunk but you will risk damage to other parts of the airplane.
Good luck.

If the engine will idle but dies when you open the throttle; I would suspect a vacume leak after a crash. You need to do a leak down test to see if there is a vacume leak and if there is then a preasure test to find it. This is the first place I look after a crash. I like to use a Mitey Vac that you can buy at any auto parts store.
