Hey guys, I am new on this forum. I have a question about an original Blackfoot. I had one of these about 10 years ago and just recently was able to pick another one up that had never been used for very cheap. My question is what a good motor\pinion gear set up was for this truck. I bought a Trinity Monster Pro Stock 27t motor and put a 13 tooth pinion on it and the truck seems very slow? I simply cant remember what I used to run in my old one. Any tips would be helpful! Thanks!!

Welcome to the forums!

I can't help you with an appropriate gear combo, but I don't believe the Blackfoot is intended to be a very fast truck. The final gear ratio is probably pretty low.

Does the motor get warm? If not, gear it up 2 teeth at a time. Robinson sells pinion sets that have 5 or 6 different ratios either in odds or evens.
Final gear ratio will be high to give a lower top speed by the way. 11:1 is slower than 5:1.

Motor gets very warm, almost hot. Its a Trinity Monster Pro Stock 27t. I am currently running a 16 tooth pinion. Stock for this truck is a 10. I have tried a 13 tooth, not very impressive. Maybe I am running the wrong motor?

The blackfoot I had didn't have a adjustable motor mount.

I have a plastic piece that goes in between the motor and gear box that is adjustable.

Do you think the round thing in the upper right corner will work?

That is the exact piece I am talking about. It works very well.

If your batteries are old and/or cheap, that may be your problem. Stay with the small pinion but get some better batteries.
You'd be amazed the difference they can make.
