Hey i really wanna get a brushless set up going but i wanna throw it in either my B4 or a stadium truck, what would you recommend for a motor speedo and battery, i wanna do at least 50 and get good runtimes

On 6-7 cells, you'll want something like a Mamba Max 7700 system to hit 50. Although one of the faster Novaks or the MM5700 might come somewhat close in a light vehicle like a B4.
If you really want to hit 50 easily something like the MM5700 and higher voltage batteries would be good. But to keep weight reasonable in a lighter vehicle, LiPo might be best compared to, say, 8 cell NiMH.

If you want to hit 50 consistently, and have good runtimes, high voltage, low Kv setups are probably going to be a good bet.
If you plan on running lower voltages like a 6-7 cell (or 2s lipo; that opens up the runtime possibility), the Novaks are pretty good. The mambas are also good, but I've had motor heat issues with them compared to my Novak stuff.
More information would be very helpful (such as budget, what kind of batteries you want to use or will be using, how you're going to set up the vehicle, even climate is helpful).

The novak 3.5r motor will definately do 50 on 6 very good cells or 2s lipo and it wont overheat. Even though you are limited to 2s lipo, this motor is more efficient than a lot of motors that run on higher voltage.

Well im gonna set it up for bashing and light racing, i wanna do 50mph, i live in iowa so you be the judge of climate, and budget well say keep it under 300

I always seem to forget about that one setup :roll2:. I sooooooooooo want another Novak again.
Ok, I vote GTB 3.5R! The Novaks are top notch quality in my experiences, great customer service, and I've never heard of any GTB/velociti combos overheating.

So I guess the consensus here is that a Velociti 3.5R can push an off-road vehicle as long as it's not too heavy? The "3.5" is just such a small number that I have a hard time imagining how it can work! Hehe. Guess it's sort of on par with a MM7700 though, right?

It's supposed to be faster than the 7700. It can push a Rustler (which is heavy compared to a T4) to 47 mph according to GAmaxx over at Traxxas.:D I think he said he had some room to gear up too. Scary thought huh? WOOOO!
Offtopic: Just got my sintered rotor! :D:D:D:D My first impression, it's at least twice as strong as the velociti rotor (I was picking up random tools...:D), and is still smaller in diameter. I can't wait to run it tomorrow.

LOL. Now that's a scientific test if I ever saw one. :)
So you're putting this rotor in your SS5800?

so im gonna go with the novak 3.5, what kinda runtimes will i get with a 6 cell 3800 Mah NiMh and speed or do i need lipos

I'd say about 7-10 minutes of runtime and no, you don't need lipos, but they will definately offer better performance over nimh.

Yes.:D And hey, that was the most objective test I could find; driving is subjective IMO.;):p
Legend- On 3800s, if you gear mildly, I'd say a good 10 minutes (maybe like, 13 if you're lucky...haha!). It's a currrent hungry system. If you have the ability to save up/budget for some lipos....it'd probably be a good idea.

yah i got the budget for it, but what would you recommend for lipos i know nothing about them, charger id pry get an ice, and where do i buy them from. links

The best deal I've found for a charger/balancer combo is the Hyperion EOS 5i AC/DC charger + LBA10 balancer. That charger only goes up to 5 amps (but that combo is about 130 bucks, which is a good deal IMO). You can find that combo at www.b-p-p.com . They also sell hyperion packs there (which look good), but those are quite expensive compared to what else is out there.
You could always try taking a look at www.maxamps.com too. I hear nothing but good about their batteries (so far), and they have fair prices for what they're offering. A 2s 5000mah pack would probably be a reasonably priced, but still plenty powerful pack for use with a GTB 3.5R, look around though.
For the Ice, www.towerhobbies.com probably has the best price for it (I haven't checked maxamps or bpp for the Ice though, so ya never know). Something like the Ice from tower and the LBA10 (though it's kinda expensive there) from maxamps along with a higher capacity battery (complete with hyperion taps so it's "plug and play" with the LBA10) should set you up nicely. That'd probably cost around 250-270 not including a powersupply if you need one (Figure around 120 for the Ice, another 90-100 for the battery, and then another 40-50 for the balancer).
As far as lipo specs go; for that system, a 2s 7.4v 5000mah 20C (100 amps cont.) lipo or better would probably be a good idea (more on the safe side probably, but that's ok), and deliver good performance. Maxamps also has a 2s 8000mah 20C pack which would probably give you GREAT runtimes, and supply the motor with PLENTY of current. Depending on how hot the motor gets though, the system may not outlast the battery in one straight shot.
These are just my opinions and what I've looked up and researched for my own personal interest in getting some lipos; I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions and setups and stuff.
Remember one thing though; you get what you pay for!

one last thing, what servo would you recommend to steer this buggy
ElectricThunder
07-19-2007, 04:03 PM
I don't have a buggy; I have a heavy Rustler with Proline Mashers, so I just use the high torque servo that came with my Spektrum 3.0 (the name skips my mind). I think it's something like 80 oz. in. of torque at 6.0v and has metal gears. Something like that is probably overkill for your little B4.
Basically, I have no clue.:D
