I am planning to build my first tunnel hull for electric outboard. Thought to build it light with frame and 0.8ply sheeting. Yes buying one is easier but building is fun. (have built a few planes...)

An other way would be to hot wire cut urethane and coat it with thin layer of fiber glass

Anyone have experience with this carbon fiber lower part http://www.drcwebservices.com/ffe/images/carbonelectricOB.jpg

I think it would be lighter than conventional.

The outboard lower unit is not appropriate for a little 21" tunnel, it belongs on a boat from 24" and up with 12-cell or more power.

An easy way (relatively) to build a tunnel is to use blue foam and cover it with 1/64" plywood. This is light and strong. Building a hull with conventional frames almost always results in a warped hull that causes problems on the water. The WOF (wood on foam) technique is popular with many experienced modelers.

Do not get too hung up on light weight - with today's power an extra 4 ounces seldom makes any difference. I would strongly suggest you build a 24"-26" tunnel and use 12 cells. This is far more satisfactory than a little boat on 6 cells, and not that much more expensive when you consider the better performance and rougher water it will run on.

OK, i thought that wof is too heavy for (low price) electric. What would you suggest as electric setup. Modified dolphin, or this above mentioned outboard lower that can be upgraded to something more fun later

I have a 660 7.2 motor laying around can i use that?
