So I was perusing novaks site and I noticed that they have released a new 13mm rotor which has.

larger diameter and improved magnetic material

the spec says it can take temps upto 200c which is impressive to say the least.

Goddammit! I just got the regular sintered rotor! AHHHHHHHH! Ok, I'll buy this one too......:D

I wonder how that rotor and the 3.5R would fair.

I hope they make one for the HV motors too and also with a thicker shaft. I hate having to use the smallest pinion gears made.

LOL, ditto. Darn Novak constantly innovating! :D Eventually (like, in a really long time) I'll get a touring car or some other fast vehicle that will require a brushless motor. Then I can get the latest goodies. :)

I feel like crawling into a hole for a while and not looking at anything RC for a very long time...lol! I wonder how much performance is affected by this new rotor. (Maybe they read my posts as to why the rotor was so small, and I was wondering if a bigger rotor would help performance; my question has been answered!)

I would love to see this rotor in the 3.5R. Monster torque and a still freaky high Kv.

I wonder what else Novak has cooking (New HV system I think? Perhaps an new HV ESC based on the GTB?)

I just bough the sintered one too, just like last time. I buy a new 13.5 and out comes the 13.5T the same week. Just bought a GTB out comse the Spread Spectrum same week. Just bought the 13.5T Pro, out comes the new rotor. I'm broke...have to get a new esc for my 1/12th car.

remember this is a tunning option for the velocity motors and it may not be an improvement in some circumstances over the velocity rotor.

I would expect that perhaps this would make the motors easier to drive with a sensorless esc due to the smaller airgap.

You also don't know what it does to efficiency, but it could improve it as well.

What is the diameter of the current sinterered rotor and what are the advantages of this new 13mm one...aside of what I read in reference to temps. I guess they are really trying to shut the bashers up from rcuniverse. lol:p

The current rotor is i think 12.2mm, but the extra .8mm could make a big difference considering, that there is more magnetic surface area, more leverage on the shaft, and a smaller airgap. All those three things add up.

How would this rotor hurt efficiency? If anything, wouldn't it get a little better? The motor would hopefully run a little cooler at least from an increased Kt due to more magnetic surface area and a stronger magnetic field.

I'd love to see how this rotor would affect something like the 3.5R. That's a pretty beastly little motor right there (and it's always nice to have a cool, FAST motor). At the very least, I'd expect some more gearing potential out of any Novak motor that uses this new rotor just from an increase in torque.:D

I say it is just wasted money until they come out with the 14mm rotor that really makes those motors fly. I found this by putting a 14mm feigao rotor in my novak ss5800. By the way, the original bonded rotor is 14mm. I tend to get the idea that novak is milking us along with these improvements. Just my opinion.

Was that from a 380 feigao motor, and it fit alright?

I would LOVE to see a 14mm sintered rotor. WOOOOOO! That'd probably be sickening torque wise.

it kind of fits, I had to remove the sensor board and make some custom spacers to keep it in the correct place. It did have monster torque and seemed to run really efficiently since it didn't get hot very easily. I was bummed when I got my 10.5 pro because I thought I was going to be able to borrow its rotor and lower bearing unit and put it into my rewound ss5800. Then I saw how small the rotor was. I tried it anyway, and there was no torque, plenty of RPM, but no torque. I would use the feigao rotor again, but it seems to flex a bit since it uses the old novak bearings (the small one on the output). It was fairly loud when I used it and I don't want to destroy the rotor since it might be hard to find another one. I also tried the old novak bonded rotor in the feigao can. WOW for RPM, but BOOO for torque. It spun so fast I was scared to let it wind up all the way.

Cool. The first thing I said when I saw the sintered rotor compared to the velociti rotor that was in my 5800 was "uh.....it's smaller". It does pack a punch though. I'm running 23/87 with proline road rage tires on my Rustler, and for the roughly 5-7 minute run I had outside today tearing up and down the street and sidewalk pulling wheelies, it was a little monster. The motor was cool to the touch (probably about ambient, so around 95 degrees F), and the ESC was about 110 to 120F. And of course...then the top gear blew. Woo...hoo....

I wonder if Novak has any plans to make 540 rotored motors, or like you say, at least bring out another rotor such as a sintered 14mm rotor.:D
