It hasn't come yet.
You got me all excited, I thought maybe an update had been released!

Just being dumb here maybe, but there's nowhere in the MM controller to plug in a sensor, is there? Can't you just run the novak motor sensorless?

Correct, but the Novak motors don't run too great on the mamba ESC to begin with (unless you have a sintered rotor; then they run sorta ok). Castle said they were going to release an update that would allow the Novak motors to run much smoother and better.

i wonder how they work with the 13mm sintered rotor with the reduced airgap it might work ok.

That's a good question. We just need someone to try it. :)
I know people talk junk about Traxxas but the sensored port on a sensorless ESC is a nice feature that I hope all controllers eventually go with. This way you can run absolutely anything on a controller. If you need to run a sensored motor to be legal, it seems like a waste to run it without the sensor and take advantage of it.

I didn't know the traxxas esc had a sensor port. I might have to take a better look at one and see how they perform.

Yeah, Traxxas was smart to include the sensor port on their ESC. Graupner does this with their Genius series of ESCs. When the 13mm rotor comes out, I'd love to try it, but Kufman brought up a good point in another thread; what if Novak comes out with a 14mm rotor (the size of the typical bonded rotors). Heck, I'm in the neighborhood for a new motor anyway, so if I ever get more money, then I'll buy the 13mm rotor along with a SS13.5 Pro or something and then a 3s lipo. Then I'll rest it on my mamba with whatever firmware is on it now
When does the rotor come out anyway?

since a novak 3.5r motor is already equipped with a sintered (I remember reading this, but correct me if i'm wrong) then it would be ok to run?
what kind of behavior could i expect? I won't get the speeds i want?

It should run fine with the sintered rotor. It'll probably cog at lower speeds; how much, I'm not sure. I still have yet to test my SS5800 that has a sintered rotor in it with my mamba ESC.
There are people running the Orion Vortex brushless motors on their mambas with good results, so I would imagine as long as you have the sintered rotor, you should be good.

I just test orion vortex 7.5 on my max, horrible and crazy cogging on start.
We test this motors: novak 8.5, novak ss5800, lrp x11, reedy neo1, gm evo3 7.5, all of them the same problems.

What were the ESC's settings? A member on a few of the forums I go to (skellyo) says his Orion Vortex runs fine on his mamba max.

We try everything, with two ESC, we also test the motors with other ESC that could run with sensor wire unplugged and work perfect, so is not an issue with the motors.
I dont know if that guy have some special vortex :P but I think that if the vortex works ok will be more used and more people know that works, not one guy on a forum,I dont know if other turns works ok, our test are with motors between 7.5-8.5 and none of them works ok at start, after the car is moving it works quite well.

I can see cogging from the start with the sensored motors. I ran an HV4400 (no sintered rotor), and it did cog some every so often. It ran pretty well for the most part (I was surprised).

We I say cogging, I refer to crazy start, and sometimes the ESC goes crazy and dont move :(
With the motors I test and with this firmware, is not possible to race :(
But im pretty sure that when the new firmware is released, will work ok.

Mine would get moving, but would stutter (cog) a bit before it finally got goin'.
Who knows when this update will come out. It's kinda obnoxious waiting for it.

mine had the same problem when trying to run an orion on the mamba esc. I ended up just buying a novak esc.

According to brushless guru and Castle Beta tester, John Holmes, the update will be out in 2 weeks.

A few months ago people were saying the the MMM would be out in June. I'm hopeful, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I hope so. It'd be nice to switch motors out in my TT-01 without having to switch out my ESC also (one reason why I'm contemplating getting a Velineon ESC; with a tower promo code, it'd probably be about 110 shipped.:D).

No kidding!
I think they are too busy looking after OEM customers to bother supporting their own products these days.
A real shame, they have what is probably the best hardware and can't be bothered to provide an update which would make it perform up to its potential.

There is a guy in the RC-Monster forum that is modifying the MM. I guess they waited so long some people with the skills are doing it themselves.

In what way ias he modifing it though??
Im about to purchase a vortex 7.5 for my mamba max. Ive fried 2 CMS motors due to overheating, so im giving the vortex a go. For the people who run these motors and have fairly bad cogging, i would like to know the following
Is the motor hardwired or connectors to the esc?
What settings are being used with the vortex?
What batts are you using?
I also plan to swap the wires on the mamba max from 13gauge to 12gauge. Does anybody know if the solder ports on the board of the esc will allow 12gauge wire to be fitted in them??
