I just got this off of E-Bay, used. This is the first brushless I have owned. I put it in my daughter's E-pede. The problem is, it is no faster than the stock motor and msc. Am I wrong thinking this should be able to wheely at ease, and be alot faster?

What am I doing wrong? Do the motors wear out? I have it hooked up to a 3000mah Venom battery with deans.

Did you gear it according to Novak's recommenations? Their web site has recommended gearing for various cars with the 4300 and 5800.

I just came back from the lhs. That's the same thing they said. So I bought a 15 toth pinion. I'll see if this helps. Thanks.

Brushless motors shouldn't really wear out, except the bearings after a long time. Even at stock Pede gearing, the SS5800 should be way faster than the stock motor. It may not wheelie much, but it should scoot pretty good. 15/87 is a good gearing, but even geared somewhat higher your motor should feel quite powerful.

Those Venom batteries aren't the best out there, so they may be hampering your performance. I doubt they'd slow an SS5800 to the speed of the stock motor, but either way you should consider getting better batteries.

What a difference the 15 tooth pinion made. When it can find traction, it will flip over backwards. The look on my daughter's face when she drove it for the first time was priceless. It was worth every penny.

this system also has 6 different programme settings, which includes 2 that will "limit" the top speed, perhaps its on one of those settings?...check out the manual on these settings.

What would be a pretty good battery for this system?

IB, GP or EP NiMH cells are good. IB4200's seem to be rather finicky, though they are powerful. I'd shoot for GP4300's if you know how to assemble packs, but that's just me. EP4200's from Promatch Racing sound good. Older IB's like the 3600's or 3800's should be good too. If you want ultimate performance, look for Lithium batteries of some sort. However, the SS5800 does great on just some decent NiMH cells. I have GP3300's.

I wonder if GP, IB, etc. will move on to lipo technology....?

the only thing nimh is good for anymore is balancing/spacing batts in your car .. or making minium weight for points race if your running lipo .. he he ..

If lipo becomes ROAR legal, and vehicle weight is kept the same, parts may get beefier and the vehicles will end up being the same weight. I look forward to beefier race trucks that still weigh much less than something with a Rustler, but are crazily overpowered.:D
