Why, all of a sudden, is my new OS .46AX acting up during ground operations? I've been breaking it in according to the instructions, and it has never had problems in the air. But ground operation is another matter. After the engine is started, it sometimes makes a loud popping/snapping sound and then quits. Once, when I hand cranked it, it actually ran backwards and blipping the throttle got it to pop and then run forwards. Is there something wrong with the engine (it's still under warranty) or is this normal during the first ten tanks of fuel. Or is there some adjustment I can make to keep this from happening.

Hi
I have a .46 SC aeroplane engine. Bought this engine from a guy second hand but it has had less than 1 hour running. It idles well but does sound every now and then if it has a misfire.

How many turns do I need to adjust the fuel mixture needle to? At the moment I have it at 2 and a half turns as told by the seller but it seems a bit rich as its spitting out a lot of unburnt fuel out at the exhaust.

Can you give me an awnser also please?

Two and a half turns is a beginning point when initially starting the engine. After the engine is running, open the throttle all the way. Then slowly turn the needle in until it reaches the fastest smooth running. Now continue to turn the needle in until the engine slows or quits. Now turn the needle out between a quarter and a half turn. this should give a good safe setting. Restart the engine and, with the throttle wide open, point the nose of the airplane straight up. If fuel system from tank to carburetor is correct the engine will perhaps speed up a bit and keep running. If it stalls open the needle a little bit more and continue until it keeps running strong in this position. Once the correct setting is achieved minor corrections will be only occasionaly required.
Hope this helps.
