I had a old Novak Cyclone ESC. It had a rating of 480 amps and 160 amps braking. I have never read anything about it being limited to a minimum turn motor and used a 10 turn motor all the time with it.
My new GTS Pro Sport is rated 60 amps higher(forward) and 200 amps higher in braking and yet they say it is only good to a 12 turn motor and above.
What gives?
thanks,

i wouldn't run anything under a ninteen turn but that is avery conservative aproach

motors now are more powerful than motors of the Cyclone era?
i dunno just a random blurb

That rating is a *surge* rating at a certain transistor temperature. The Cyclone has higher quality components and can probably hold a higher continuous current as well as better components that will most likely transfer heat outside of itself quicker.
And yeah, Helgaiden hit another point. Modern motors soak up more current than older motors.
Fortunately, Novak rates their ESCs very conservatively, so you will be able to go down to at least the motor limit as long as it's geared right. Sometimes you can go more than what they recommend but I don't really suggest it. It voids the warranty anyway.
