Well, I think i'm ready to step up to my first brushless system, but I don't know which one to get. I'm looking at either the Novak XBR sport/10.5 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRST7&P=7

or the Mamba Max 4600
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNKU0&P=7

Any other combos out there that I don't know about? It'll be going in a T4 that i'll be using for bashing, maybe club racing. Thanks for the help.

i would go for the mamba just because the xbr is a naff version of the gtb.

However If you want sensored i suggest you pickup a second hand novak gtb system.

Would there be a difference between sensored and sensorless for bashing?

What??

Not much of one. Sensored should be a little smoother at low speeds. If you're bashing then sensorless (especially one of the low-kV Mambas like the 4600) will be plenty smooth enough. If you ever want an extremely powerful setup, you can run a bunch of NiMH cells or 3s LiPo with the MM4600. If you're not going to take advantage of this potential power, or if you don't care much about fine-tuning your system, then there won't be as much of a difference for you between a Mamba and a Novak.

Naff is an English slang term. It basically means stupid/useless/tacky/el-cheapo <<== Along those lines
Chilledoutuk is right. The XBR is way too naff. So they add a few features that the GTB doesn't have, so what. If you ever use those features, maybe then they'd be handy. It's too limited in what you can do to it, like add more voltage.
For the price, the mamba system is far better. It's slowest easiest to drive system is about the same as the XBR's fastest system. The mamba 4600 and XBR EX8.5 (which is only a 5000kv motor) are much of the same in terms of power from 6 cells. You could go up to 12 cells on the mamba, essentially making the 4600kv motor into a 9200kv motor (had you run it using just 6 cells), all for the same price as the novak 8.5.

For those who don't look around this forum, have a look in the brushless forum for Which brushless setup for under $170? (http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=242178) and read all the GSMnow comments, in particular post#22.

Maybe he will change your mind about sensored and sensorless.

I'll go with the MM 4600 system then. I can always upgrade the motor when i'm ready correct? I'll be running nihm cells, I don't trust myself with lipos yet (ok, my wife doesn't trust me).

I have ordered it (the 5700) from BPP, but I'm still waiting for it to arrive. They didn't have them in stock, but they didn't actually say they were out of stock while ordering. I emailed them and, I must say, they are very good with communication and reply very quickly, unlike companies like Trinity. They never reply:mad: Anyway, they have since got the brand spanking new shipment in, and were shipping it out on Tuesday. I can't wait. I go check the mailbox with my fingers crossed, but still nothing:o

For all those who want the mamba, get it from BPP. At the moment, you can get it for $168.95 including free shipping, even out of the States, plus they are throwing in some freebies.....female and male deans connectors, 3mm connectors (I assume those are the ones that come with the mamba for the motor-esc connection) and also some screwdriver sets. They even mentioned they were upgrading the normal free shipping to super duper deluxe fast shipping, also for free.:D

It's so nice dealing with companies that are good, and even more, REPLY to emails.

My mind is made up, I think i'll order the 5700 system (probably when I get xmas money) through bpp.

No, they don't tell you about freebies on the website. Only in the email did they mention that. I would assume if you buy it now it would come with the freebies, but it was with a pre-order sale. You could ask them if you get the freebies that you heard about.
The deans connectors are about the only thing worth anything, I already have enough screwdrivers. But still, the price is excellent and even anything thrown in is icing on the cake which I ain't complaining about.

I think it is funny that they are charging more for the 8.5 and 13.5 and they don't even list the 10.5 Odd. Yes, those are good prices for the sensored Novak. The GTB is capable, and with the sintered rotors the motor are pretty tough as well. For tight tracks where you want very smooth control at very low speeds, the sensored systems are a bit easier to drive. I just have not seen one put out the raw power of the Mamba Max. I am not saying they are weak by any means, they will smoke any brushed motor in real world power, and the learning curve to drive them is much easier than the holy crap torque the Mamba Max can put out. And of course they are ROAR legal for Mod. and if they ever figure out the rules, the 10.5 may soon be legal for 19 turn. And if we all hold our breath, some century ROAR may allow the 13.5 in stock. Maybe when we use a fusion reactor in place of the dangerous LiPo's.

Ahhh yeah, fusion reactor. Now we're talking. Goodbye lipo, hello Mr Fusion. All we need now is a flux capacitor ;)

Haha, I like how there still seems to be people (ROAR) who thinks the lipos are super dangerous. If you just treat the things properly, they're no more dangerous than NiMH cells. I've had actually much better luck with lipo safety than NiMH safety.
ROAR needs to open their eyes. Trinity has a LiPo now, so they can make them race legal. It's okay. Big-T has stepped up to the plate.*
