I am returning to RC after a 10 year hiatus (2 kids). I have an OS 91 Surpass. In prepearation for its return i completly disassembled and cleaned it. Everything seems to be in great shape, all moving parts and bearings are all in great shape. The valves are working smoothly and the carb slide is smooth. I put all settings to the factory default.
When I attempt to start the engine, I choke the carb and turn over the prop. The fuel flows up through the line just fine. I try to start the engine and it fires only a few times then nothing. After many attempts I finally noticed that the fuel line is empty. I looked more closely at the fuel line. When I prime it the fuel flows up the line, but when I stop turning over the prop the fuel empties back into the tank. I don't recall this behavior from before.
Any thoughts on what my next steps would be?

Is your fuel tank centered at high speed needle valve level? If it is too low fuel will gravitate back to the tank.

Also if there is a crack or pinhole in the fuel line this will occur. Check where the fuel line slips over the carb nipple.

Good luck,

Hi;
how did you make out wiyh your fuel line problems?
It would benefit many of us to know.

You could have reversed the lines out of the tank. Many people have done so. That is the most common problem. Then it could be a line fell off, got pushed off inside the tank, or debris has stopped up the system.

Cheers,

Chip

re: fuel line problem
This is great information. Hopefully, I won't have such a problem, but am hoping to get into rc airplane flying over the next year; a fuel line problem for a beginner could cause a long delay in discovering what the problem might be. So, your problem may help me in the future.

Thanks

Sounds like a fuel tank problem. If the vent line is blocked or restricted, it could cause the symptom you describe. Since you took the engine apart and cleaned it after the long storage, take the tank apart and do the same for it. Since the set-up worked before, something has changed and it may well be in the tank somewhere.
