The USRA (Unlimited Scale Racing Association) held its final race for the racing season at Parker, AZ on October 25-28. The race had seven different classes which each ran 5 heats of racing. Depending on how the pilot finished during each heat, they would accrue points after each bout of racing which would give them the total points place and standing. If a pilot finished in the top 5 at the end of 5 heats they would go on to the final gold trophy round, which is a single heat of racing that would determine the winner.
This year a new class of racing was established as an entry level event, the Sundowner class. The new Hangar 9 Sundowner plane is used along with the Evolution 35GT motor, both items must remain stock and above the minimum weight. This is checked during the race with an inspection. Yours truly flew in this event at the Parker Blue Water River run. While I did not get a chance to race in the Trophy race I did finish in 7th place and came home with a plane in one piece. I can tell you this, I will be at next year’s race, racing is a blast. Check out some of the photos.
