Just got started on my newest review project. The new Platinum Series Texan is a very impressive ARF. Span is 54 inches and it is 39 inches long. It is designed for the Power 25 E-Flite brushless motor (turning a 12x8E prop), and the E-Flite Pro 60 Amp ESC.
The Texan is built very well and has a three piece wing with removable outer panels, 3-panel flaps, and Robart retracts are an option. It comes with fixed gear.

The tail surfaces are airfoil shaped and the stabs plug in for easy storage. I don't think I will take them off

The power system is a Power 25 brushless outrunner and the Pro 60Amp ESC, both from E-Flite

The retracts are mechanical and made by Robart specifically for the Texan

Ready to fly with the JR 2.4GHz transmitter.
The three-panel flaps work great and have internal linkage. Servo is under a hatch but the pushrod is internal to push the flaps down

Hi Gerry,
Looks great! Looks like it might be 3 or 4 pounds. I will be interested to read your review and how it flys.

Test flight is set for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I have taxiied it and it seems to have a lot of power on tap. It weighs 4.2 pounds ready to fly. But I did not install the scale cockpit kit that is available for the model.
Will let you know how it turns out

Flew the Texan today! Boy was it cold today! 21 degrees and my hands were frozen by the time I landed. Bright and sunny though. The model taxies very well.

with flaps deployed, the model can fly very slowly with out any problems! Just keep the nose down when you are landing

Hi Gerry,
Wow that thing looks good in the air. Whoever took the pics did a great job! Usually at 21 degrees my servos don't respond quick enough.
Did it have any tip stall tendencies when you slowed it down?
Also wondering if the model CG'ed without adding any weight?

I had a friend fly for the camera so I could take the flight shots. Yes, at 21 degrees the camera was even slow...
I had to add 4 oz. of lead to the nose to balance the model, which ready to fly, including the nose ballast comes in at 4.2 pounds.
We slowed the model down a lot to check its flying characteristics and we got only one tip stall while turning it off course after really slowing it down near a stall. But for general flying, including with the flaps down, the model is really a good flyer. It feels like a bigger airplane in general, wind did not affect it very much, we had a moderate breeze and it flew through it just fine.
Beautiful little Texan. Perfect for a .30 four stroke.

emmm, maybe a 40 or 45 4-stroke. I don'ty think a 30 could swing a 12x8 prop as well.
