Just got my hands on a copy of the new Realflight G4 simulator from Great Planes. I was immediatly impressed with the overall package and quality of this sim. The physics are incredible and I finally feel like I am flying the giant scale planes when using the simulator. Water sceneries are a nice addition, along with suitable aircraft.
Stay tuned for videos and if anyone has any requests for what they would like to see let me know.

Hey yeah it really does, I found the physics of the airplane flight to be top notch, the best out of all the simulators I have tried. If your computer can handle it, this is the sim to get!

You will be fine with that one for a long time. Don’t worry, the main thing is that you have a flight sim to practice on.

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting the G4, what are the graphics requirements for this system. (I have a gateway MT 6723 with intel pentium dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz; video card Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express ChipSet Family, driver igdumd32.dll; Vista; USB port; I'm not too computer smart as you can see:o)
I hope to use it on my laptop but not sure if it'll be good enough:confused:.
any info on this and other requirements would be greatly appreciated.
I've never flown before and want to use this route to learn how. I've done a lot of building but never had the chance to fly.
Thanks in advance!
Pat
Looks like a good forum and I'll be hanging around to learn from you pros

Hey Pat, I am afraid the main condition of the requirements is the video card. It looks like you have an internal video card as did I with my desktop. I had to upgrade the cideo card in order to get G4 to run. Same thing goes with the video card on my laptop, which unfortunatly I am unable to run G4 on since you cannot really upgrade the video card.

Thanks for the info Mark.
I sent an email to their support services to see exactly what I'll need.
I really like the looks and reviews of the G4 but can't justify buying another computer just for this. I'd rather throw that money towards building a plane and its components.
How do you like the G4? Any problems besides the video card?
Thanks again for the info, glad I didn't order it yet.

Mark,
I downloaded the G4 Demo (free download) and tried that out with my laptop and it works fine (of course it doesn't have all of the features and controller) I may just go ahead and order it and if I have to upgrade or get my other computer running now, so be it. I want to get started now:).
It does seem that the simulator is very forgiving in mistakes (or is this the actual way flying is??). Maybe it is and I'm just thinking all commands have to be precise and no margin for error. If I master the simulator does that give me a high percentage chance of being able to actually fly with some confidence?
Oh, I didn't see (but may have over looked it) any mention of multi-engine planes listed. I am considering building either a C-130 Scale (because I used to jump out of them in the USMC and now want to fly them:D) or an OV-10 type plane. (more than likely these will not be my flight learning plane though, because I do not believe just simulator experience will cut it for them).
Thanks for your input and any other advice/suggestions.
Have a good day
