View Full Version : Traction on Cement?

Odd question, does anybody know any treatments to put on a cement floor to really increase grip, or best tires to put on a 1/10th electric buggy for good traction? or even a combination?
It's polished cement right now, and all the covering/paint has worn off.

Sugar water or soda to make it sticky (literally). Soft rubber tires with either a mild tread or just slicks (depending on how rough/sticky the concrete is, it may be better to go with a treaded tire). Just my experiences though.

Just leave it alone and wrap the tires in electrical tape.
That's a boat load of fun. Not much traction but VERY challenging to race. :D
Seriously though, grape soda makes a heck of a traction compound once it dies. You have to be careful though because eventually it'll build up some dust/dirt and it gets kind of ugly... At least that was my experience with the stuff the one time I tried it (micro RS4s in a garage).

Grape soda, warm water with some high concentration of sugar.

We're all running 1/10th 2wd electric buggies on 6 cells with Novak GTB 5.5 motors..
We'll try everything already mentioned, the more traction the better! still open for suggestions..
PS: what do you guys consider a "high" concentration of sugar?

2:1 pop/water ratio ( its easiest to just buy 2 liter pop bottles and dump the liter you dont use into an extra container) . do it an hour or so earlier so it has time to sit and dry and "sticky up" lol

Grape soda from Wally world. 33 grams of sugar. That's what we use for our drag strip. Spray with a chemical pump sprayer.

and what tires are you guys running? we're actually running 2WD 1/10th electric buggies.. so it would have to fit them.

Foam tires.

Tried them. they didn't work at all. we used to run Dynamite tires until they were discontinued, we're running traxxas ones now and their.. alright... we've tried foams, panther, pro-line, numerous compounds.. for some reason traxxas is working the best so far.

have you tried traction compound on the foam tires ???

or if its in a nice garage or basement you could paint the floor with added texture for a no-slip grip.

would you guys be allowed to paint the floor?
if so then you can use floor paint and add "shark grip" to it.
its basicly fine sand in the paint.
and it works real good. you just have to mix that stuff up constantly
when you are applying it.

The tire selection is very limited, too many companies have gone to specialized rubber compounds that only one or two brands will work. Look at Custom Works tires provided they fit the rims. Another choice is use something that will soften the tire a little - we used Automotive Brake cleaner (CRC Brand). Use it the same way you would with traction compound to vary the grip, whole surface of rear tires and 1/2 to 3/4 or full surface of fronts. No surface has ideal traction, even carpet tracks tend vary in amount of traction, asphalt too - as temperature changes so does the grip.

I'd get carpet and roll it out for race days, throw on the foams with traction compound and have at it. You've got too much power for smooth concrete IMO...
