Hi guys,

I recently built a E-Revo, ditching all the nitro components. All the stuff from the nitro setup worked before I took it off. Now the electric version works but only until about 30ft or so. It's not the crystals or antennae since the steering will work no matter how far away I am. Here's my setup:

Mamba Max ESC - mounted by velcro
Starluck RC UBEC
Feigao 9XL
RCM heatsink and motor mount
94358 steering servo
5.5 connectors on the motor
4s Hyperion 4350mah LiPo
Deans connectors for the batt
enclosed Rx and BEC in Tekno Rx box
deanodized chassis (interference?)
Rx is mounted by velcro (stays put)

The antennae has been shortened but it hasn't had any effect on range in the past. I'm really stumped about this, I can't even get to full speed before I get out of range. The guy who had this setup before me said he used a Spektrum system, so maybe I just need to upgrade? Any ideas?

The high current draw of brushless systems can bring out any weak link in your electronics (radio range specifically). High amounts of changing current make all kinds of radio frequency noise.
I would suggest making sure your battery wires are AS FAR AS POSSIBLE from anything related to your radio.
Short antenna won't hurt much on nitro, but will absolutely kill a brushless's range while accelerating.
Just to check also, you're not just hitting a current limiter or low voltage cutoff are you?

Try switching off the lvc or setting it lower and see if that makes any diff. Feigaos seem to have a high starting current demand - might need to set starting power lower if this is tapping the batt too much.

Is it any different if you just ease into throttle?

Thanks for the help guys, I found out that it's the UBEC. The unit from Starluck (don't know the brand) causes interference on the FM band.

Gonna get a Castle unit.

I have a Castle BEC on my stampede. Be sure to clip the red wire on the ESC. I put an aileron extension on it then clipped the aileron extension so that I don't ruin the esc lead. You will still have to turn on the esc switch as I discovered, but my steering servo sure is stronger now. :D
