Hi, I am sick of paying through the nose for synthetic glow engine oils when buying it from hobbyshops with their seemingly large markups.

1. i am wondering whether or not there are glow engine oils produced by major complanies?

If Not

2. Can i simply choose a suitable sythetic lubricant by rating (e.g. 5w- 75 etc).

I mean, in my earthmoving business we simply choose a suitable lubricant by its rating and whether its mineral or vegetable based(Now before you say it... i understand the large glow engines i use in my bobcats, trucks and excavator run on diesel and are water cooled).

Kind regards
Adam
I live in Australia by the way just in case you were thinking of directing me down the road in your local town and you live in...America for instance!

G'Day mate;
Do you mix your own glow fuel or do you buy it redy made?

You can mix your own if you can find the ingredients.

Methanol or as some call it "methylated Spirits", castor oil (degummed) and nitromethane is all you need if you can find them in your area.
Castor oil is way cheaper where I live and I prefer it to synthetic. I use Baker's AA.

I had trouble finding these items at first until I went to a speed shop that sells auto racing equipment and fuels. I mixed my own fuel for half the price
of commercial premixed glow fuel.

Hope this information is helpful.

i have found a supplier of methanol...its mainly the oil price that annoys me the most. to buy synthetic oils from hobby shops for glow engines costs heaps. maybe i should go back to degummed castor. i much prefer synthetic oils myself...(i used to race 2 stroke aircooled go karts and we wouldn't use anything else but synthetic oils in them).

You are stuck. Only a few oils will mix with alcohol. One being Castor oil (Bakers AA is the common grade used). The other oil I think commonly found in Oz is "Cool Power." Cool power is a synthetic. Common motor oils like 10W-30 will not mix with alcohol, so will not be suspended in the methanol.

Cheers,

Chip

Was the synthetic oil you used in your karts any cheaper than that sold in the hobby shop?
It should mix OK with methanol.
