OK...I've got the airbrush..a Paasche VL, got the paints..good assortment of Fascolor. I even have a vinyl cutter! Now here's my problem..I have not a single artistic bone in my body!!! Every time I try to draw a design, be it on paper or on the computer, they wind up looking like something my 2 year old nephew drew with mashed potatoes at the dinner table! I will spend hours checking out others designs online, and try to copy them. I'll start working in my signmaking programs and draw a complete blank! Maybee I'm trying to hard...I don't know. I have 4 bodies lined up that I want to paint...and not just single colors from a rattle can that I used to do. I have a XXX-T body, a Greedy 350Z, a Venom T-maxx shell, and an EDM body. I'm all set to go...just have no clue what to do. LOL HELP me get over this mental block! haha

Search the forums and emulate (fancy word for copy) the style you like.

Hardly anything is completely new these days.

Pick up a copy of Truckin' magazine. They usually have some great car (truck?) show pictures. I usually get my best ideas referencing real cars more than just copying other RC designs. Break away from the R/C norm.

Kustom Kulture site is great for that too.

Thanks guys for the advice! I will def look into the magazines. What I've been trying to do is to get it to look too good...get frustrated that I can't get it look perfect, and give up. Guess I'm never going to learn if I don't actually start doing it! haha

I will have SOMETHING painted by tomorrow night haha

If you look at my site (http://www.airbostongraphics.com/Gallery.htm), I did a Suburban, flamed Chevy truck and an old Ford pick up. These were taken from pictures in a Truckin' mag show coverage article. Funny though that after I finished the Suburban, the following month it was featured in Airbrush Actions HOK awards. While these are not exact copies, the basics are there and I just let my imagination go to work. Sometimes the pictures only show a Little of the paint job and you need to fill in the blanks (like the Suburban's roof and hood that sports a similar albeit smaller design. Sometimes the colors get changes a little like I did with the Ford and sometimes it s almost a straight copy like the Chevy PU (though I did add the CG bed liner and bow tie logo.

Lastly, it takes practice. The more you do the better you get. Look for the "secrets" to get cool designs and textures. Anything with holes can be sprayed through. I've used used dryer sheets from the laundry, drawer liner from the garage, lace from my wife's sewing box, screen from an old window and more. Also a heavy spray followed by wrinkled Saran wrap plastic, followed again by another color is really cool old school crystal look.
