Hi Lee, keep your articles coming they are one great asset to the modeling community...My question is...years ago in one of your articles you mentioned how to tell how much the oil content was in the fuel one was using by taking a certain amount, which I cannot remember, and putting it in a container and letting the nitro and methanol evaporate and the remaining substance, the oil would remain...that amount would then give one the % of oil in the fuel...could you send that recipe or formula to me...it would more than appreciated on this end...Thank you.....Richard G.

Dear Rick,

Determining the oil content of glow fuel by evaporization is just a matter of pouring a measured amount such as four ounces into a container with graduated markings. Place in the sun and allow to evaporate. If you have one ounce left the oil content is 25%. If you have 3/4 ounce left the oil content would be 18.75%, etc. You divide the amount left by the amount you start with, I.e., .75 (3/4) divided by 4 = .1875. You can speed the process up by using a Pyrex container and lighting the fuel with a match. Alcohol and nitromethane burn slowly so there will not be aa burst of flame as with gasoline. Never try this with gasoline fuel.
